Question 1

I want to stick it in my car usb jack.  Is the aluminum casing worse than a rubber one when the car inside heats up?

Note that I have not used my jump drive in my car yet. But having said that, I'd think a metal case would heat up faster, but it would also cool off faster than a rubberized case. My advice would generically apply to all electronics, keep it out of the sun, especially direct sunlight, and extremes of too hot or too cold.

Question 2

I just purchased and received this 256GB Stealth flash drive.  I just plugged it into my laptop (Windows 7) and it says that it has 230GB free of 230GB.  Is this the correct amount of usable "free" space for a 256GB flash drive?

This is true of any drive - if you buy a 1TB hard drive, after all of the formatting, etc. you will have 938+GB of usable space.  The amount of space that is used formatting, etc. will be relative to the size of the drive.

You can try a different format method if you like (FAT32, NTFS, exFAT), but it shouldn't make too much of a difference.

Question 3

The 128 Gb Flash drives comment on being backward compatible to USB 2.0.  Is this drive?

(most) all usb are compatible but they only work at the slowest speed, for example the usb device here is a 3.0 so that's its fastest speed, but if u plug it into a 2.0 drive it'll work but at the speed of a usb 2.0.

Will this work in windows 98 se in usb 1.0??

No because it's USB 3.0 and is only backwards compatible with 2.0 ports as far as I know. You can try it at your own risk though, but it may not work if at all.

What is the write / read / transfer speed?

It varies based on the speed of the port, it is a USB 3.0 device and performs accordingly. A 700 MB file takes roughly 30-40 seconds to transfer to a hard drive. It will also vary based on the receiving drive and its connection speeds.
