Can i use this ram to double my ram from 6gb to 12gb in conjunction with my current ram? (CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TR3X6G1600C9)

What kind of problems would i run into using a different brand or speed of ram (like GSkill for example)

Yes, I am currently using two triple channel 6 gig kits on my rig and it works perfectly. The system reads the full 12gigs without any issues and I am running @ 1600mhz. You want to make sure you are using the same brand chip, preferably with same frequencies and clock speeds. I've tried using my Corsair with A-Data (running @ different clock speeds) didn't work out well, frequent restarts and/or black screening. If you are using Corsair, I would keep it Corsair and try to match voltage, clock speed, and frequency to eliminate the possibility of crashing or hardware issue. looking to upgrade my system. have msi x58a-gd45 with CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMX6GX3M3A1600C9 on it now. do I need to use more of the same or can i use 3 CORSAIR XMS3 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Desktop Memory Model CMX4GX3M1A1600C9 in addition to my existing ram??

You should be fine adding the 3 4GB sticks to your system. I did something similar with mine a year ago.
