Does this require a connection to the power supply?

This card does not require additional power connection, but on top of the card you will spot a multi-pin connector that I have not seen any documentation for. It turns out to be the connector for your front bezel hd audio jacks (mic & headphone), assuming your rig has such. My Dell 660 does, and it was a simple matter of tracing the line from the bezel to the motherboard, disconnecting the plug at the motherboard end, and attaching to the pins at top of the sound card.

Will I see a noticeable difference with cheaper speakers?

u might depends on how cheap. I didn't notice a much of a difference in my klipsch pro medias. I didn't buy the sound card for speaker performance. On-board sound card can not drive many studio grade headphones. And that is where this card is great. Pushes my audio technica m50s better than I could have imagined.

Question 3

Does this card have an amp built into it to improve headphones? I have read where an amp will greatly improve sound for headphones so I want a cards with an amp. Just looking for feedback from people using this card with headphones...primarily for gaming.

Michael, I cannot answer that question. I have purchased several Creative Sound Blaster cards over the years. What you hear is based on several factors, starting with a right card would be the first one. Bose headphones would be the second.

I'm running into a problem with the speakers not working.  The card installed fine, sound came up.  After a reboot the sound was gone.  I worked on it for a while, then brought up the creative diagnostics.  Resetting to default fixed the problem...for while.

Now, there's no sound again and the reset to default doesn't work.  All indicators on the computer (Windows 7) show the levels bouncing when playing sounds, and the card tests fine. When using the creative launcher and switching between gaming and entertainment, the speakers fire for a split second with what's playing.

The problem as I see it is that the card is not detecting the RCA jacks being used for speakers, and is defaulting to the optical.  Does anyone know of a reliable way to fix this, as its frustrating.  ?   Thanks

Unfortunately, the card is possibly defective, I purchased one that had similar problems to yours, replaced it, 2nd card also did not provide output from any source, SPDIF, Composite (RCA) or headset, I verified device manager driver (installed latest driver from Creative) settings for the device, Creative support verified that the card is functioning properly. I tried different cables, connected to different receivers and amp, installed the card in a different PC running win 8 pro x64 with the same results.

So sorry that I could not assist in getting the problem resolved, I spoke with a few support reps from Creative, no one was able to help. Fortunately, I have a Denon AVR 3313CI receiver that connects to my network so I do not have to rely on a soundcard.

You should be able to find it by Googling "X-FI Titanium HD" and go to the support page for the card on the Creative website (it should be the 4th or 5th link down, it was the second Creative link for me).

On the support page, the driver will be the first download link. I have Windows 8, but it should cover all recent versions of Windows.

The Creative Console Launcher is also on that page, which I would recommend downloading after installing the driver since that'll help you tweak your audio settings.

Which sound card would you strongly recommend for gaming that doesn't lack EAX support?

ASUS Xonar Essence STX or Sound Blaster X-FI Titanium HD?

Creative Labs have a long history with EAX. I have no experience with ASUS soundcards.

Yes it comes with a 3.5mm jack for line out.  This card is very nice.

Can you monitor the analogue mic input without delay on Win7?

I am not positive, but I think if you use the card in the audio creation mode, utilizing the ASIO drivers you can with minimum delay.  Again, I am NOT sure of this.
