Can I hook this up to a system w/Windows 8 on it.  More importantly will it work w/Windows 8?

Newegg sent me this question to answer, so...  here goes!

These are very simple and functional and while I have not used them on a Win8 machine yet, they work flawlessly on XP(32 & 64) and Win7(32 & 64) systems along with WinServ2008r2(64) systems.   This leads me to suspect they would work on a Win8 box but as I don't have first hand experience, I can't say for sure.

Does this device work with Windows 7?

Comes with NO DRIVERS and NO software and I wasn't able to find any drivers or software on there website. I'll have to call them during business hours but thats hard for me since I'm so busy during the weekdays.

this product does not come with the software needed to be able to operate. The software has to be purchased separately from the manufacturer , and it is very expensive

Yes, at least the drivers if nothing else - to work with third-party biometric apps. They do have some basic ID software that comes with it (via download from their site).

There is no software provided with the item.  You must get drivers and application software elsewhere.

Also, these tend to fail after a year or two of use, the lens becomes opaque and fails to read fingerprints.  The company does not offer replacement lenses.

Where exactly do you get the drivers and/or software for this since it didn't come with any and I wasnt able to find it on there website?

      I Always purchase this finger Reader for a software we use that we use with our employees to authenticate when clock in. Usually our software that we use provides that software for this finger reader. But I had the case in one of our machines were it didn't want download the driver software from our software. Then when you to the site its really hard to find the software for this device. but I found it.
in the website digital persona go to 
- support
- downloads 
- support updates and click here that's in blue.
- select your product ( One Touch for Windows)
- select your products version(1.1.0)

download and extract and open folder file and click on setup.exe and that should do it.

I want to use this to sign on to the desktop with win 7.  I want my wife to be able to go to her desktop.  Does this item come with software to support these operations?

   Unfortunately, no.  It comes in a case where a CD is clearly intended to be, but no software is included.  You can download for free a single user install from their website after searching around for it.
   They work great and are very consistent.  Initial "recording" of the finger print is typical for such devices.  I have over 100 of them deployed in our company and in the 6 months or so since we started using them we have not had any trouble.

Can this product be connected to an IPhone or Galaxy?

Even with a USB OTG wire for a newer Galaxy phone I dont think it will work. Ive only gotten Printer/Keyboards/Mice/Flash Drives and Hard Drives (NTFS needs special app w/rooted phone) I tried my other USB finger print reader no luck. I don't think android supports it yet but that might have changed since the Galaxy S5 came out.
