That style of RAM chip will fit into any motherboard that supports DDR3 1600 RAM, regardless of whether the motherboard supports AMD or Intel processors.

Similarly, as long as the RAM is compatible with the motherboard, it will support 32-bit operating system installations, but since 32-bit operating systems can only recognize a maximum of 4GB of RAM, you really would be better off installing a 64-bit operating system if you purchased this RAM (or alternatively, purchasing only 4GB of RAM if you need to install a 32-bit OS).

my asus motherboard has 2 memory slots of which 1 has a 4gig mem module:i am told that this board can take 16gigs of ram;i want to add 1 8gig stick for total of 12gigs.will the mixed 4 and 8 sticks together to increase performance? i am told they wont.

No you must change both to 8gb to get to 16gb, or take out the 4gb and put the 8 in its place, giving you 8gb instead of 4, and be stuck with a 4gb laying around. This is how they get you to not upgrade with using what you have. If in future laptop purchase, always look for 8gb min so you can upgrade and make sure its not 2 - 4gb sticks, only one 8gb stick or your right back to this again.

Your best bet is to check with Dell. This mem is excellent IMHO. I have it installed in 2 of my Desktops. One with a Gigabyte MB and one with an MSI Pro MB.

No I'm afraid not the DC7900 has DDR2 RAM. DDR3 won't fit in the slot. You can get up to 16 GB in the four provided slots unless you have the Ultra Slim (size of a book) then you can only upgrade to 8. Unfortunately when the industry moves to a new memory type the old kind, in this case DDR2, gets pretty expensive you'll be paying a lot more than you would for DDR3.

check crucial . com as that site will allow you to scan your system and recommend the RAM...OR allow you to enter make/model.
The scan is the better solution as you can buy 2 different ram sticks that are supposed to work with your laptop...but they won't work together...if that makes sense.  The Scan will recommend RAM sticks that are compatible with mobo and the other ram (if applicable)

If it has DDR3 already installed in the computer then yes it will work. If it has DDR2 it will NOT work.
