what type of water filter does this model use?

It comes with a paper wrapped charcoal. I would not recommend buying this coffee maker. The LCD display is very hard to see. The water reservoir opening is small and hard to fill. The coffee pot dribbles VERY BADLY when pouring. I bought 2 of these at the same time and have this problem on both of them. I contacted the company and they were very UNWILLING to help. If you google the problems with this coffee maker, you will see all the complaints. I wish I had done this before purchasing. Stay away from this model!

How do I register my DCC-500 series Coffee Maker?

I have been using these coffee makers for 15 or more years both at home and in rentals. Generally, they are quite reliable and hold up well. I do not send in registration cards since they beget more junk mail and generally provide little protection beyond replacement (if you are lucky; if you can prove it failed on its own). Do your homework before you buy and you will have little to worry about. Good Luck!
