I am looking for a waffle iron for a blind person. Does this waffle iron have a sound alert when the waffle is done?

I'm sorry to say it does not have and alarm when done. I don't know of a waffle maker that has one but that is a great idea. My wife really likes this waffle maker but I might suggest a digital timer to set when waffle is done. Good Luck. Merry Christmas.

does this particular waffle maker have removable grids?

No, it does not.  Also, something to think about it stays hot a long time after it is unplugged.  This would be good for a single person or a couple but for our family of 4 it takes a while to make enough for all of us.
