Actiontec SBWD60A01 ScreenBeam Mini2 Wireless Display Receiver
  • neweggOwned For: 1 day to 1 week

4 out of 5 eggs No more HDMI cables for me 05/17/2015

This review is from: Actiontec SBWD60A01 ScreenBeam Mini2 Wireless Display Receiver

Pros: Holds a connection* for more than 6 hours. I streamed two 3 hours + movies from my Samsung Tab 4 LTE using the 'Screen Mirroring' feature in the drop-down box. There was no artifacts, no dropped frames, no out of sync audio problems.... it was as if it was connected via a HDMI cable.
It supports both Miracast and (intel's) Wi-Di. (see CONs)
When I read a review about a competing Wireless HDMI dongle that could hardly maintain a connection at 15 feet, I was concerned that this Actiontec Screenbeam Mini 2 might fear the same however to my surprise and delight, I tested it at 15 feet, it passed, at 23 feet... it passed, at 27 feet... it passed so I went to 35 feet and it still maintain a connection. I believe that this thing may be able to operate successfully at even 50 feet.
Doesn't get very hot while operating for hours however, I don't think that I would want to make this a permanent connection (ie. replacing a HDMI cable). Excellent for presentations! No messy cables anymore.

Cons: Upon start up, it occasionally disconnects from my Samsung Tab 4 LTE for the first minute or two however it *maintains a strong stable connection for many hours after that.
Even though this claims to support Wi-Di, I have not been able to get it connected to my Asus T100 TA Tablet and my Intel NUC Mini Computer both run Windows 8.1 OS and which both sport Wi-Di 'capable' processors: Atom z3775 and i5 3427U respectively.

Other Thoughts: I am disappointed that I have not been able to get Wi-Di to work from my computers however I am very pleased with the wireless range seeing that I was researching a few Wireless HDMI Dongles that could do twice the range of the "Mini 2" but they cost between US$185 - 309.00. The Mini 2 does the job well, I am not sure how long it will last however I will update should I get it to work with any Wi-Di (Windows based) computer. Just ensure that you download the Screenbeam app from the Microsoft Store or from the Google Play Store in order to up-grade the firmware.

ASUS 10.1
  • neweggOwned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: This model has the more up-to-date Atom z3775 (quad-core) processor that will turbo boost up to 2.39Ghz, not like the z3740 which turbo boost up 1.86Ghz found in other models of T100.
USB 3.0 full size input on the keyboard.
Micro HDMI on the tablet.
Micro SD slot on the tablet which will accommodate up to 64GB memory card.
Battery will run (on a full charge) from 10 hours 30 minutes to 14hrs 15 minutes, depending on what you are using the computer to do.
Responsive IPS touch screen... absolutely NO freeze up!
The price! You will not find another machine out there that has all the features of this tablet at a lower price... Asus gives value for money here without sacrificing on quality.
64 GB of storage.
This computer runs (full) Windows 8.1 32-bit not Windows RT which does not support legacy (.EXE) programmes

Cons: Screen is acceptable however, I was hoping for colour bursting, 'eye popping' IPS screen. Colours do seem to be accurate however on the mild side.
Wish it had a battery in the keyboard to extend the very long battery life to more hours. Just a wish. :)
Only 2GB of RAM... 4GB of RAM would have made this computer the envy of all other manufacturers.

Other Thoughts: Coming from the Asus' Eee PC1000H netbook which sported a single core Atom N270, which gave me a maximum of 5hrs back in the day, this T100 runs circles around that computer. If this tablet had a better screen and more RAM, it would have been a 5 STAR rating from me but even as is, I will give it a 4.5 stars because in my opinion, its the best tablet manufactured to date. I never thought that I would be able to get my hands on a computer this good for less than US$260... simply amazing. This is 100% recommended.

TP-LINK TL-WDR4300 Dual Band Wireless N750 Router, Gigabit, 2.4GHz 300Mbps+5GHz 450Mbps, 2 USB port, IP QoS, Wireless On/Off Switch
  • neweggOwned For: more than 1 year

Pros: I wrote my initial review (27th May, 2013) on this wireless router after seeing it on sale for US$59.99 almost two years ago. I have owned this router for 1 year & 9 months to date and to tell you the truth, sometimes I forget that it is even on, it just works without needing attention. I have gone ahead and modifying mine by installing a laptop fan inside as my TL-WDR4300 is on 24/7 - 365 days for the year.
Just two days ago, I got a little concerned as I woke up and found that I had no internet on my devices. At first I thought it was my internet provider so I called them up and I was told that them have no issues, so I check my connections... nothing! So I connected one of my computers directly to my modem and like magic, there was internet again. So I narrowed down my focus to the WDR4300 so in its place, I connected one of my 'back-up' routers and it worked like a charm. I then tried several reboots with the TP-LINK but no luck. Suddenly, I remembered that I have never updated the firmware this router since owning it so I used my back up router to download the latest firmware (TL-WDR4300_V1_141113) from TP-LINK's website and then upgraded the firmware and connected it back to my modem and guess what? ITS WORKING AGAIN!!!

Cons: No cons for this particular model. Remember to UPGRADE your FIRMWARE!

Other Thoughts: Just a lesson to you guys out there, before you throw out your router, try everything including updating your FIRMWARE as this could mean the difference between buying a new router or saving yourself some cash by rocking the old one. I think that I am gonna buy at least one more of this model soon as well as the bigger sister, "Archer C7." TP-LINK has now earned its way into my 'good book.'
