Boots 4m2

Seagate NL35 ST3250623NS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 1.5Gb/s 3.5" 24x7 working Hard Drive Bare Drive
Seagate NL35 ST3250623NS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 1.5Gb/s 3.5" 24x7 working Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Initially i had suspected that the boot drive only thing may of been true. As the intial cloning of the OS mucked up shortly after completion. But thought nah that can't be right, so zeroed the drive, formatted and recloned..has been running fine ever since. Just to make the drive itself did not have issues, ran a couple hd diagnostic apps, chkdsk, etc.. came out fine. The whole sata as a boot drive can be problematic. My nforce 2 board requires raid drivers, even when not using raid. My nforce 3, needs no other drives connected during the OS install. One must be sure the board is set to boot from SATA in bios. But, this go I just connected this drive to a SATA PCI Host card, formatted and cloned the orig SATA boot drive, had a quirk and redid and has been fine ever since. Though am keeping fingers crossed.

Cons: none as of yet

Overall Review: As usual neweggs processing time and the package arrived as promised, fedex often came on the 2nd day of the 3 day plan, but hey very reasonably priced 3 day shipping that arrives on the third day, is fine with me. Now if only I could win a weekly newegg contest haha.

Samsung App Warning

Seagate Central STCG2000100 2TB Cloud Storage System
Seagate Central STCG2000100 2TB Cloud Storage System

Pros: Easy setup, works with with all my dnla gear, TV, Receiver, Xbox and access via wifi router and first gen ipad. Good transfer speeds, no issues streaming music (primary purpose) via ethernet, central to router, dnla hardware connected to 10/100 switch that is connected to the router via 25ft cat6 cable. Cannot attest to video as yet butg may require a 10/100/1000 switch and or router for optimal streaming.

Cons: The promised Samsung Smart Hub Seagate Media App compatible with Samsung Smart Hub TV's and Blu-Ray Players model years 2012 on, is false. I have had to return a Samsung BD-F5900 ( is in the correct model year range) And no app in the app store. Fortunately Newegg was stellar on the return experience. I had to hunt down an older model Samsung Player BD-E5900 that is on a hard to find list from Seagate ( this should be included in their advertising/product description) http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/005037en have suggested to Newegg to add this to their product description online so others who are purchasing this and or Samsung products because of this promised availability/compatibility can avoid the hassle and expense this has caused myself and Newegg. Am an old dog and prefer to browse my music collection via album covers like back in the vinyl days. And the Seagate Samsung App promised this, when coupled with 2012 on Samsung smart hub devices. I very very rarely watch dvds or blurays and purchased a supposedly compatible player just for this feature, if I was content with list or folder view (thumbnail views) w/o album cover art, hades my TV, Receiver and Xbox already do that. If this is an important factor in purchasing a central and or Samung TV, Blu ray... be sure is on the list above or pass on the Central in lieu of something else that will. Contacted Seagate support via phone weeks ago, and was promised they would contact engineering and get back to me, no word yet. Else will be like many such as I going (insert favorite expletive) and getting naught but a stoney silence from Seagate. If this feature is of no consequence for your needs so far so good on the Central.

Overall Review: Myself, friends, family and a host of online freinds and associates will be looking to non Seagate hardrives, nas devices , media streamers, external storage devices etc... for sometime into the future...which saddens me a bit as Seagate drives have hitherto been my first choice over the years. This issue has been noted and Seagate aware ofor sometime now, and they have yet to address it, or change their advertising , product description regarding this, nor appear to addressing it with an App update. That is inexcusable imho.
