Acer Desktop PC AM3910-UR30P (PT.SDXP2.001) Intel Core i3-540 2GB DDR3 500GB HDD Intel HD Graphics Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

Pros: Purchased this with this monitor, and the setup looks SLICK. I would have used the monitor's DVI connection, but this PC only has VGA. Still looks amazing streaming HD content from YouTube, which will never be an issue with gigabit connection. Nice that a budget pre-manufactured PC has W7 home premium on it. Media Center is quick and smooth. Didn't get to try video games on it, but W.E.I. rating wasn't half bad. Bundled peripherals are aesthetically and ergonomically pleasurable. USB's out the wazoo (4 ports labeled "front" are actually on "top"). Plenty of room for expansion should the day ever come. Sweet, roomy half terabyte hard drive, and finally, how can you go wrong with a DVD burner?

Cons: I want to choke the numb nuts at Acer who decided to put blue LED's in the tower (and said monitor), and green LED's in the bundled (and otherwise matching) keyboard. Blue all around would have been fine by me. Sorry, I digress due to OCD. The wired mouse and keyboard feel a bit, for lack of a better word "dinky", but not so much as other value PC's I've used. Bloatware is increasingly ridiculous, but this is typical. Also, it will suck, should I ever install a video card, that I will most likely need to upgrade the PSU.

Overall Review: Since you're reading my review, you are interested in this tower. I think you should buy it. For its price, it exceeded my expectations.

poor manufacturing.

CORSAIR 1GB DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Desktop Memory Model VS1GB667D2
CORSAIR 1GB DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Desktop Memory Model VS1GB667D2

Pros: cheap, reliable ram.

Cons: i bought one last year when i built my very own first rig. i bought one this year to upgrade it. corsair apparently changed the circuitry on the chip, as the older one had eight transistors on both sides, and this one has only eight on one side, and they even have the same sticker. after install, windows started randomly crashing BSOD. re-installed windows to no avail. THEN i find out the new chip registers fine, but my old one somehow changed speed to 663 mhz. 663?! in either slot, but only when the new one is plugged in also? whoa. i removed the old chip, maybe it's buggy, but now that i installed windows on two different speeds of ram, windows glitches. there is no winning.

Overall Review: don't let my whining scare anyone away from purchasing this ram. just make sure you buy enough to satisfy yourself all at once, not a year in between like me.

It's a cable

TRIPP LITE N001-006-BK 6 ft. Cat 5/5E Black 350MHz Snagless Molded Patch Cable
TRIPP LITE N001-006-BK 6 ft. Cat 5/5E Black 350MHz Snagless Molded Patch Cable

Pros: It works. Cheap for its quality. 6 feet. Gigabit. I've had a plethora of shoddy, ratty cables (like the one this replaced), and this one seems to be a lot tougher. Almost 2 months and it still looks like new.

Cons: Only cat5. Could have paid less for the same length, but I always recommend quality first. I would recommend something cheaper, if you only plan on plugging it in and leaving it forever. You could buy 4 cheap-o cat6's for about the same price...

Overall Review: I bought this for my in-laws, who compulsively swap the cable between the computer and PS3, practically destroying the old cable (broken clips, knots, tangles, frays, you name it). Wireless router to amend the situation entirely soon.

Buy one for a friend, too.

Kingston DataTraveler G3 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (White & Grey) DTIG3/4GBZ
Kingston DataTraveler G3 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (White & Grey) DTIG3/4GBZ

Pros: 4 Gigs under ten bucks??? SOLD. Even sweeter, I got mine on sale, and can now stick out my tongue while I type this.

Cons: Had some read/write issues using the frontal USB 1.0 ports on my tower, so i have to get off my kiester to plug it in the back where the USB 2.0's are. Kind of anticipated that upon purchase.

Overall Review: Tricky cap is NOT an issue, as I still have it. Eventually you figure out that a little squeeze on the sides while you pull it makes a world of difference. This is good in my opinion, although I am pretty good with that old aspirin bottle...

Over-priced?

Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD1200BEVE 120GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache PATA 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive
Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD1200BEVE 120GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache PATA 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: It works as phenomenally well as any WD drive. Paying for a new HDD, albeit more expensive than it should be, was a lot nicer than paying for a new laptop.

Cons: I think it's a crock that older ATA technology is more expensive now than SATA. I believe that a 120 GB ATA drive should be exactly the same as a 120 GB SATA drive.

Overall Review: Newegg is AWESOME, by the way. I blame the manufacturer for any retail price being what it is.

A neat little thing...

Nippon Labs 2.5" IDE to USB 2.0 Black USB External Enclosure Model EN-25USB-BK
Nippon Labs 2.5" IDE to USB 2.0 Black USB External Enclosure Model EN-25USB-BK

Pros: Does what it is intended to do: plug into one PC to copy files onto, then into another to copy files off of. Works great for administrative purposes as I needed several gigs of space, this device plus an old laptop HDD I already owned was more cost-effective than buying a decent thumb drive. No drivers needed. At least not for me (all three PC's I've used this with so far running XP SP3). I also did manage to boot to windows from USB! Hooray! Fun!

Cons: ATA connection over USB is kind of cheesy, however, you should already be taking this into consideration if you are reading this now, (assuming you know what you are doing) as I did when I bought mine. The screws in the sides to keep the container sealed are rather small (like eyeglass screws), but you probably shouldn't be playing with this thing on your carpeted living room floor... like me... losing them...

Overall Review: I did find one, eventually... Oh, and a heads-up; don't tighten up the screws, just snug them. They will stay put just snugged, as mine has (just the one) for over 2 months now, even on the go. Don't want to strip the little threads. Then you'll need duct tape.
