Unit still working...

ASUS ROG Radeon RX 480 8GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Graphics Card STRIX-RX480-O8G-GAMING
ASUS ROG Radeon RX 480 8GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Graphics Card STRIX-RX480-O8G-GAMING

Pros: Unit functions as advertised...

Cons: Not supported by Adobe for motion graphics or ray-tracing, they only support another well known gpu mfg.

Overall Review: Just to let you know that Asus will rarely honor their three year warranty on their products so if you have a latent failure on your device you're pretty much on your own. I had a motherboard that failed prematurely and I sent it to them in an undamaged state and tech support at the RMA center said it was damaged. So now I only had the option of repurchasing a new one or having the old one shipped back unserviced. What's worse is any software that was activated on that machine is now lost so I told them verbally and on their FB page I will be going with a new manufacturer in the future. their latest board, the x299 WS Pro/SE has Win 95 era boot times of 117 seconds form START button to Win lock screen.

DIMM3 Slot went bad

MSI X99S SLI Plus LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
MSI X99S SLI Plus LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Inexpensive and good write up. Initially powered on in quad mode RAM using Gskill RipJaws.

Cons: After a week of running the board wouldn't POST. Found that DIMM slot 3 was bad. All my RAM booted fine except when this slot was populated. I'll be sending it back on RMA since it is past the 30 day window for Newegg return. I see now the same board is $50 more so I went with an Asus X99-A. When this comes back from RMA it will be a spare.

You've got extra steps involved with wireless

Logitech G935 Wireless DTS:X 7.1 Surround Sound LIGHTSYNC RGB PC Gaming Headset - Black/Blue
Logitech G935 Wireless DTS:X 7.1 Surround Sound LIGHTSYNC RGB PC Gaming Headset - Black/Blue

Pros: If you want to use wireless, you have to set this as your default device on the sound settings in Windows and switch back to your external speakers when done. This doesn't have to be done with wired headsets.

Cons: Have to set as default device in the sound settings in Windows. Turning it on does not get the sound to play out of the headset if your external speakers are set as the default device. With a USB device the switch is automatic.

Overall Review: Have an auto changeover between this device and your external speakers when turned on and vice versa. Otherwise you'll forget and wonder why no sound is coming out of one or the other.

Office Innovations waived the restocking fee...

Brother EHL-L2320D
Brother EHL-L2320D

Pros: These nice people were kind enough to waive the restocking fee. I couldn't cancel and requested a return. My Brother MFC-9130CW is not worth fixing so I need a new color laser MFC. This is why I returned this one once I couldn't cancel.

Cons: Monochrome

Overall Review: Probably a good printer but I need color.

After 20 shots, string catch not latching

Killer Instinct Lethal 405 Crossbow Bow Archery Pro Package with 3 Bolts, Camo
Killer Instinct Lethal 405 Crossbow Bow Archery Pro Package with 3 Bolts, Camo

Pros: Good reviews on YouTube for price

Cons: After 20 shot sigting in, the string catch stopped latching the string and the bow cannot be cocked. I contacted Killer Instinct, who tole me I had to register my product and I would have to send the limbs in for warranty repair if no local shop is in my area and unfortunately, a service fee would be required. The problem is not the limbs, it's the string catch mechanism which is on the body. Today is the 3rd so I'm going to see if Focus Camera will send me a replacement.

Overall Review: You're on your own for warranty repair.

Incredibly long boot times...

ASUS WS X299 Pro/SE LGA 2066 Intel X299 USB 3.1 CEB Intel Motherboard
ASUS WS X299 Pro/SE LGA 2066 Intel X299 USB 3.1 CEB Intel Motherboard

Pros: Works with current Intel X series CPUs. I upgraded from the STRIX x99 LGA2011v3 board which would not accept the new Skylake-X CPUs.

Cons: Incredibly long boot times. I'm a graphics artist and decided on a workstation board this hardware refresh instead of a gaming board like my older STRIX x99 chipset this one replaced. This board takes 117 seconds from power on to Windows lock screen... and over half of this is in the UEFI BIOS itself before the boot process is handed over to Windows. So if you like Windows 95 era boot times this is the board for you. Unacceptably slow by today's standards. Nobody at ASUS tech support can figure this out as I furnished them with a ton of information about my homebuilt PC and they never got back to me. The first suggestion was to reinstall Windows, however the majority of the time is in the UEFI boot process before Windows even begins to load. A firmware upgrade on the board did not help and fast boot is enabled in the UEFI.

Overall Review: I'm living with it until the Ice Lake Intel CPUs are released for HEDT systems sometime in 2020, which most likely will be a socket change from LGA2066. Any time I upgrade the motherboard I am required to purchase new software licenses for many of my applications as once activated on a particular board that is all she wrote so this greatly adds to the cost of upgrading. I usually wait until Intel changes their socket design, like my last upgrade from LGA2011-v3 to LGA2066. I'll be going back to a RoG board for my next hardware refresh.
