Most Favorable Review

Excellent so far

ASUS PCE-AC68 AC1900 Dual-Band Wireless PCI-E Adapter
ASUS PCE-AC68 AC1900 Dual-Band Wireless PCI-E Adapter

Pros: Easy setup, Quickly connected, very fast. Compared to a wired connection, my ping only increased by 1ms, from 8ms to 9ms. Great so far!

Cons: Fairly thick, almost touches my graphics card.

Overall Review: Got this specifically because I saw other people review it running Windows 8.1 and I also run windows 8.1. As soon as I turned my computer on after installing it, I immediately downloaded the latest drivers/utilities from Asus. They were easy to use and worked like a charm. Immediately connected to the 5ghz network. I realize that ping is also affected by the router, but +1ms delay between router and adapter is pretty darn good! I also realize that spacing between PCI-e slots has to do with motherboard, but it may be something that someone with a small board might want to watch out for.

Most Critical Review

Good performance, fan problems

EVGA SuperClocked 012-P3-1573-AR GeForce GTX 570 HD w/Display-Port (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Pros: Great performance, is able to play all the games I've thrown at it so far at very high graphics. Only chokes on the Heaven benchmark.

Cons: From day one the fan has been noisy. Not normal fan noisy... an intermittant rattle like the bearing is going. At first I thought it was the decal on the front (because it partially fell off) so I removed it... but every 45 seconds or so it makes this infuriating plastic rattle noise for about 5 seconds. Driving me up the wall, even wearing earphones... and getting worse.

Overall Review: This is an update to my previous review where I thought the noise was caused by the decal. Tried to use the code to redeem Arkham city on steam... It shows up as an item in my library but doesn't allow me to install or play.

Loud and concerning, but working

EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 P2 220-P2-1000-XR 80+ PLATINUM 1000W Fully Modular EVGA ECO Mode Includes FREE Power On Self Tester Power Supply

Pros: Seems to deliver the power I need.

Cons: The fan is SUPER loud. Power draw is has concerning spikes a few times per second.

Overall Review: Just installed the PSU. Immediately after turning it on, easily doubled the noise from my tower. All that time spent researching quiet case fans, wasted. Its not a bad bearing or anything, its just spinning really fast. I haven't tried "eco" mode yet, but that's a feature I didn't want to use. But MUCH more worrying is watching the PSU's power draw from my UPS. While using my old PSU, electrical load on my UPS was fairly consistent while idling. With this PSU that is not the case, I see it bouncing between 70w and 300w (and everywhere in between) a few times a second. Between the fan that is always on full blast and the inconsistent power draw, I'm worried that this PSU may be defective.

Poor exhaust vent / fan mount placement

Cooler Master HAF 912 - Mid Tower Computer Case with High Airflow, Supporting up to Six 120mm Fans and USB 3.0
Cooler Master HAF 912 - Mid Tower Computer Case with High Airflow, Supporting up to Six 120mm Fans and USB 3.0

Pros: -Looks nice, no stupid plastic window. -has a spot for fan on the top. -Somewhat configurable.

Cons: -The rear exhaust vent sits too high. You cannot install a liquid cooling radiator on the rear exhaust vent if you've got a large fan on the top. I bought a Cool Master 200mm case fan for the top, and it interferes with the Corsair liquid cooling kit I got for my CPU. Other cases provide more vertical space between the top vent and the rear vent. -most drive bays are riveted in, cannot be removed. Drive bays are split into 4 sections: three sections for 3.5 inch drives in the front, and one section for 2.5 inch drives on the bottom. I have no optical/disk drives, only an SSD. I would like to remove all 3.5 inch sections and move the 2.5 inch section forward. That is not an option. The middle 3.5 inch section can be removed, and the 2.5 inch section can be removed and mounted in place of the middle 3.5 inch section. I'm left with a bunch of empty drive bays.

Overall Review: -would not buy again -decent case if you don't plan to add lots of fans -I still haven't finished assembling my computer, got so frustrated trying to install my cooling that I had to write this review. Going to have to mount my radiator on the front, or put the fan outside the case.

Good for work, not for play

ASUS VN279QL 27" Full HD 1920 x 1080 HDMI/MHL VGA DisplayPort Asus Eye Care with Ultra Low-Blue Light & Flicker-Free Built-in Speakers Height Adjustable Monitor
ASUS VN279QL 27" Full HD 1920 x 1080 HDMI/MHL VGA DisplayPort Asus Eye Care with Ultra Low-Blue Light & Flicker-Free Built-in Speakers Height Adjustable Monitor

Pros: Beautiful looking display. Thin bezel, minimalistic, good adjustable stand, easy to assemble, nice variety of input ports.

Cons: Black levels are terrible. Even with the brightness turned all the way down, the blacks are much worse than my 7 year old Syncmaster 226CW, which barely turns on anymore. This is especially noticeable if you look at it from an angle, and around the edges. The colors look pretty faded unless you pump the contrast, at which point you lose a lot of finer details. I never planned to use the build-in speakers, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you're desperate. No base, and the mid-range is pretty muddy. On screen settings menu is right dead smack in the middle of the screen... so trying to calibrate the monitor is annoying.

Overall Review: I bought this monitor to mainly do software development on... and it is fine for reading and writing text, and web browsing. But it is absolutely not recommended for watching film, TV, or playing video games... which is unfortunate because it is such a large and beautiful display, until you turn it on. Also wish it came with a mini-displayport to displayport cable, so I could easily use it with macs or tablets.

Very fast!

NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band Wi-Fi Router, Gigabit Router, Open Source Support, Circle with Smart Parental Controls, Compatible with Amazon Alexa (R7000)
NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band Wi-Fi Router, Gigabit Router, Open Source Support, Circle with Smart Parental Controls, Compatible with Amazon Alexa (R7000)

Pros: Very fast. Got a good wireless adapter as well, and between the two my ping only increased by +1ms, from 8ms to 9ms. The setup page is easy to use.

Cons: you can't get to the router configuration from the "you're connected!" page... it has its own URL. Its in the manual, but it'd be nice if there was a link. pretty small complaint.

Overall Review: I haven't tried bridging the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz networks yet. I know its a feature, because I saw a fix in the changelog for the updated firmware. Hopefully it'll work. I know that the wireless adapter affects the ping, but between the adapter and router, +1ms is a pretty great!
