Love this NAS!

HAMMER HN1200-2000 2TB Network Storage by Bell Micro
HAMMER HN1200-2000 2TB Network Storage by Bell Micro

Pros: Fast and reliable. Auto switching power adapter. Nice user interface with many setup options. Allows different permissions for different shares via user or group (I filled a read-only media share with 1.5 TB of data using admin, leaving about 300 GB of read-write space available in a public share). Shares grow as needed, automatically. Permissions work with existing Windows based user accounts and groups. Works with XP and Vista. The power supply is a common, 100-240v AC to 12v DC adapter, which would be easy to replace if it ever dies (some other NAS drives use 4 pin 5v/12v connectors which do not seat well and are expensive to replace).

Cons: As with all drives, you get less space than advertised. This one gives you 1.79 TB. Heavy. This is not really a con, unless you are paying to ship it somewhere, or if it falls off a shelf and hits someone in the head. Also, the MAC address is neither on a sticker near NIC nor in the user interface (being able to find the MAC address easily is sometimes userful for setting up router filtering).

Overall Review: I bought this NAS to replace my 1 TB Western Digital MyBook World Edition, which was full. I also have a 2 TB Lacie Big Disk Ethernet. My Lacie locks up occasionally, especially when doing multiple copies. The Lacie also has problems with giving different permissions to different users on different shares. My WD and this Hammer do not have such problems. Also, this new Hammer HN1200 ran flawlessly during the three days of copying files to it. Finally, the Hammer seems faster than the Lacie. The cooling fan and overall build seem to be of excellent quality. It does not seem to get hot at all. You can control the USB ports via the user interface. I am seriously considering buying another one of these to replace my Lacie.

Most Critical Review

Dead pixels on two TVs in a row.

Westinghouse 40" 1080p 120Hz LED HDTV - EW40T4FW
Westinghouse 40" 1080p 120Hz LED HDTV - EW40T4FW

Pros: Cheap. Nice picture, if not for the defective pixels.

Cons: Cheap. Poor quality.

Overall Review: Bought this TV brand new, and it had a cluster of bright green pixels. Exchanged for another identical one, and it had a bad pixel, too. This is the first TV I've had with this issue, so I will not be buying this brand again.

Best Security Camera I've Tried So Far

Aposonic A-CDBI07R 480 TV Lines MAX Resolution Outdoor Waterproof Color CCD Camera
Aposonic A-CDBI07R 480 TV Lines MAX Resolution Outdoor Waterproof Color CCD Camera

Pros: Crystal clear image; the difference between cheaper cameras and this one: WOW! 480 lines resolution (My Lorex DVR maxes out at 640x480, so higher resolution cameras would be a waste of money). Excellent night vision to about 80 feet. Sealed weatherproof housing.

Cons: Large size. Also, I don't think this came with a 12v power supply (I don't remember, because I use those 4-port 12v adapters to save outlets).

Overall Review: Even though this is a large camera, I made the overall profile of the unit much smaller by doing the following: First, since I was mounting this under a protective eave, I removed the hood visor (it just slides off). Second, instead of using the huge supplied mounting bracket, I simply used a galvanized 4 inch "L" bracket (about $2 at a hardware store) to mount the camera very close to my house's siding and just under the roof eave. Doing this, most people don't even notice the camera until I point it out. I like this camera so much that I just bought another one. I plan on replacing a few of my cameras with this one, where space permits.

Does not work on iPod Touch!

Pros: Lightweight. Charges cell phone and ipod nano.

Cons: Does not charge iphone or ipod touch. Power adapter is only 110v, not dual voltage for overseas use.

Overall Review: I bought two of these to use for an upcoming 13 hour overseas flight, only to find they can't charge my ipod touch at all. It works on my cell phone and my friend's nano, but I would have bought a different item had I known it will not power my ipod touch. Now it's too close to my trip, so it will be a long flight. DateXX and Newegg should disclose which models of ipod this item is compatible with, and the voltage requirements of the adapter.

Dual voltage

TRENDnet TEG-S80TXE Unmanaged Copper Gigabit Switch
TRENDnet TEG-S80TXE Unmanaged Copper Gigabit Switch

Pros: AC Adapter accepts 110 to 240v AC input (7.5v DC output), which is very important to those of us at overseas APO addresses. Cheap. Fast.

Cons: NewEgg does not publish the input voltage for most items in their specifications tab. Switch gets a little warm.

Overall Review: I love you NewEgg, but I wish you would start stating the input AC voltage for your items. You ship to APO overseas, which is great, but we sometimes have to guess as to what will work here without conversion. By the way, the TrendNet TEG-8S only accepts 110v input (adapted to 5v, 2.0a DC), but is a good switch too.
