Update

AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition - Phenom II X2 Callisto Dual-Core 3.1 GHz Socket AM3 80W None Integrated Graphics Processor - HDZ550WFGIBOX

Pros: Just thought I'd update now that I've had this CPU for about a month. Still running rock solid 24/7 at 3.8ghz just by simply having the multiplier at 19. Vcore is at 1.40v.

Cons: Only thing I can say is it idles warm, about 42c. But then again with a 20% overclock what can you expect? On the stock cooler no less, not really much of a con...which is why is still gets 5 eggs! Not sure what it idles at stock speeds, don't care to find out either haha.

Overall Review: Can't wait to upgrade my mobo to something with the SB750 and try to unlock the quad beast out of this bargain CPU. This is THE best bang for the buck cpu, bar NONE! My setup- AMD 550 cpu OC'd to 3.8ghz ASRock 780g board 4gb G. Skill 1066 ram 8800gts 250gb sata HDD 2x sata LG dvd burners Antec 500w PSU

couldn't get it to work with analog inputs

Blackmagicdesign Intensity Pro HDMI and Analog Editing Card - Retail
Blackmagicdesign Intensity Pro HDMI and Analog Editing Card - Retail

Pros: Nothing for me. Triple checked and researched for hours to make sure I hooked it up right.

Cons: I bought this instead of the Avermedia Live Gamer HD because it has analog support. Right now I have old video equipment, IE a 640x480 camera and using S video for the input. I eventually want to get new equipment, but I had to build the new PC first and be able to capture video for now. I could never get this to work with the composite input, so I simply cannot comment on it's digital capabilities. Once I get all my equipment updated I will likely switch back to this card and see what it can really do. I want to eventually be doing full 1080p, which is why I bought this card in the first place.

Overall Review: I picked up the Avermedia C027 in the mean time, I had it completely set up and recording within 20 minutes. Highly recommend that card for analog inputs, SUPER easy to work with.

Bang for the buck

Seasonic FOCUS GM-750, 750W 80+ Gold, Semi-Modular, Fits All ATX Systems, Fan Control in Silent and Cooling Mode, 7 Year Warranty, Perfect Power Supply for Gaming and Various Application, SSR-750FM
Seasonic FOCUS GM-750, 750W 80+ Gold, Semi-Modular, Fits All ATX Systems, Fan Control in Silent and Cooling Mode, 7 Year Warranty, Perfect Power Supply for Gaming and Various Application, SSR-750FM

Pros: For $78 free shipping on a 750w gold rated PSU you can't go wrong. If I get the $20 MIR that'll be 58 bucks for this nice PSU. You can tell just pulling it out of the box it's a solid PSU, quite a bit of weight to it. Comes with a 16 AWG power cord compared to the standard 18 AWG, surprising for only a 750w PSU. 7 year warranty, clean black look, silent fan, runs cool. Hard to go wrong for the price.

Cons: Not a fan of the ribbon style cables, but thats really personal preference. I find them harder to route and manage. The modular cables are on the opposite side of the attached cables, so anything you hook up has to stretch way over to the connector and doesn't look as clean.

Overall Review: The cons are really just cosmetics, I can deal with it because of the price for the quality of the actual PSU. Overall very happy with the purchase.

Depends on what you ''upgrade'' from

Intel Core i5 8th Gen - Core i5-8400 Coffee Lake 6-Core 2.8 GHz (4.0 GHz Turbo) LGA 1151 (300 Series) 65W BX80684I58400 Desktop Processor Intel UHD Graphics 630
Intel Core i5 8th Gen - Core i5-8400 Coffee Lake 6-Core 2.8 GHz (4.0 GHz Turbo) LGA 1151 (300 Series) 65W BX80684I58400 Desktop Processor Intel UHD Graphics 630

Pros: 6 cores, very low power usage, very good price for performance.

Cons: Can't overclock, but at this price point for 6 cores you shouldn't complain about that. Stock cooler is sufficient, but it's the all aluminum one like the ones that usually come with I3's. I know it's only a 65w CPU, but come on it's still 6 cores. I slapped the stock cooler from my 4770k on it (which is the one with the copper core) and temps went from hitting 75c to 65c max. Never in stock, I got super lucky and was auto notified by email and bought it immediately. Less than 5 minutes after my purchase they were sold out again. The only thing this does is bloat prices and makes people get ripped off. Come on intel, you need to produce more before releasing it next time because this is ridiculous. Biggest con is that it's not realistically an upgrade if you are running 4th gen or newer intel I7. See below.

Overall Review: A little let down on performance for upgrading from a 4th generation CPU to an 8th gen. Previously I had an I7 4770k overclocked to 4.6ghz. I figured with 4 generations newer product I would see better performance, I have virtually identical performance as before. The only thing I gained was that I got a newer motherboard with newer features, and lower power usage. I went from drawing 93w at the wall to 48w at system idle. It also uses quite a bit less under load as well of course. In my opinion, only if you are upgrading from something like a sandy bridge 2500k or less/older would this be worth it. Or if you have the abomination known as the FX series by AMD, this would be a rocking upgrade from that. I only dropped 1 egg because for me it wasn't really an upgrade performance wise, but it's a well earned 4 out of 5 because it's still a really nice CPU for $200 (even though the MSRP is $180, stupid supply and demand). If I could do it again, I would have sprung for the 8600k so I could overclock, I hear they hit 4.8ghz easily so then at least it would have been an upgrade for me.

ASRock Z370 Killer SLI/ac LGA 1151 (300 Series) Intel Z370 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Price for performance/features is the best. 10 phase power, mosfet coolers, 2x m.2 slots, SLI support, Wifi. ASRock has always been a good brand to buy, don't think I've ever had a problem with any board from them. I was debating between this one and the MSI pc pro but decided to go with asrock because of the extra features and now the mail in rebate makes it the same price anyway. Very happy with my choice.

Cons: Seriously can't really think of any cons at this price range to complain about.

Overall Review: This review for ASRock review rebate program. The PCIe x1 slots are all open in the back allowing you to run x4 or even x16 cards in them if you want. Thats a pretty cool feature if you have a x4 card and don't want to put it in the other x16 slot (which would cut your main slot for graphics card down to x8).

Massive bang for the buck

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler, 4 CDC Heatpipes, 120mm PWM Fan, Aluminum Fins for AMD Ryzen/Intel LGA1200/1151
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler, 4 CDC Heatpipes, 120mm PWM Fan, Aluminum Fins for AMD Ryzen/Intel LGA1200/1151

Pros: Cools well Price

Cons: Large, possibly might not fit in some cases especially if the case is narrow installation can be somewhat difficult

Overall Review: I installed this while my setup was already in my case. If you install the cooler on the motherboard before installing the motherboard into the case it would be a lot easier, but since this was an upgrade for me I wasn't pulling everything out just to install the cooler. I got it done, but I did drop one of the screws and had to fish for it in my case. This cooler dropped the temps on my I5 3570k by 40c over the stock cooler. I was running 4ghz on the stock cooler, hitting 90+c on a stress test. Only hit 50c on this cooler. I was able to bump my overclock to a whopping 4.8ghz and still only be in the upper 80's at 100% load, simply amazing for a $30 cooler. I'm quite happy with this purchase.
