This review is from: NEC Display Solutions LCD1770V-BK Black 17" 16ms LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 450:1
Pros: Monitor is high quality, giving excellent images. Also unusually well built (see Other). NEC still supports the monitor, you can download manuals, a driver and .icm (color configuration) files. As another reviewer said, no signs of previous use.
Cons: Interesting things will happen if you happen to try to lift it in the wrong place. Nothing terrible. It will simultaneously extend, rotate and tilt. No performance issues.
Other Thoughts: This monitor was a close match, in specs and size, for one that had just died on me. I bought it with the 1yr extended warranty.
I suspect this monitor was a commercial product for the following reasons: It's built better than any monitor I've owned before - no creaking, 'bendy' plastic, here. What turns, tilts and extends does so smoothly and precisely, never binds. The original list price was > $300, not a usual price point for consumer-grade 17" monitors. The manual does without the "smiley-face" handholding of the sort you find in consumer goods. The OSD refers you to the manual for complicated options (and the fact that there ARE complicated options).
If you're in the market for a 5:4 monitor, I doubt you'll do better for anywhere near the price of this one.
This review is from: Vantec IDE to SATA Converter - Model CB-IS100
Pros: Like other users, I bought this to reuse an IDE optical drive in a new all-SATA system I built. The new system uses a B85 motherboard with AHCI BIOS. The form factor of this device is better than alternatives - you don't risk breaking anything by inadvertently pulling a drive out of the system with this attached.
Cons: Even after taking pains regarding drive jumpering and making sure of the connections, this unit recognized the optical drive only intermittently with the BIOS in IDE mode, and rarely (and unreliably) in AHCI mode. Therefore of no practical use to me. Like the title says, your mileage may vary. The problems may relate to specific hardware/BIOSes.
Other Thoughts: I ended up buying a SATA drive. This item costs too little, and shipping too much, for it to be worthwhile returning. A particular disappointment because earlier Vantec purchases worked out well, raising expectations.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: Vantec 2.5" / 3.5" / 5.25" SATA / IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter - Model CB-ISATAU2
Pros: Used successfully thus far, with a single exception (see Cons), with multiple 3.5" IDE and SATA HDs, and an IDE CD burner. Good performance. Also works with 2.5" (laptop) IDEs.
Cons: Tried it with a <> 20/yr old 340Mb IDE HD to see what was there. Adapter had it tagged as a 2Tb disk. Didn't try to use such an old disk.
Other Thoughts: Combine this with rubber/silicone drive sleeves (not carried by Newegg that I could find) such as are sold by SIIG, and you've got a universal external drive setup.READ FULL REVIEW
