First Impressions
Pros: Solid build, the screen hinges and the keyboard don't flex one bit. Square, well spaced keys, I basically buy business laptops just for the keyboard. High quality hardware goes well with a Linux installation. Overall better then expected, thanks Newegg.
Cons: Top bar requires trained fingers, especially to change the volume you'll need to touch it just right. Built-in speakers are both on the right side. Win 7 doesn't handle the speakers well, left channel worked, right channel was dead. Win 7 is a bit of a hog, performance unimpressive, but there is alternatives out there. Win Vista sticker to remind you that it could have been worse.
Overall Review: Installed Ubuntu almost immediately, which works out of the box and made the whole experience a bliss. Sound works well in Ubuntu, can hear both speakers and they actually sound very nice for a business laptop. This is somewhat of a paradox if you consider the sorry state of sound in Linux of a few years ago, I can see winds of change. The battery and power adapter are not branded HP but they've worked well this past one day. Battery doesn't seem to want to last as long as two hours, but some say that Li-ion needs a certain period of use before it reaches the peak of its performance. We'll see. First time I buy a refurbished laptop and I wanted a reputable company for such deflowering. Newegg proved to be Prince (Princess, possibly) Charming in and out.
Everything but the sound
Pros: The looks and comfort.
Cons: The sound.
Overall Review: These are somewhat worth one egg for their ergonomics and comfort, also being able to wash them with water could be useful so here, two eggs. But they're earbuds and they're expected to play sound and they're horrible at that. The bass is nonexistent and sound is scratchy and metallic all around. You can kind of squeeze some bass if you work your equalizer, but you'll mostly get more rattling noise and little joy. And yes, I'm considering their low price, but I've had $2 Chinese earbuds that played lovely in comparison, so no, they're still too expensive for how bad they play...
