SAMSUNG SD390 Series S24D390HL Black High Glossy ToC 23.6" PLS HDMI Widescreen LCD/LED Monitor, 250 cd/m2 DCR Mega Infinity (1000:1), VGA HDMI
SAMSUNG SD390 Series S24D390HL Black High Glossy ToC 23.6" PLS HDMI Widescreen LCD/LED Monitor, 250 cd/m2 DCR Mega Infinity (1000:1), VGA HDMI

Pros: the 5 rating is based mainly on the supreme quality of the screen, which with a little tweaking displays deep, poppy colors. i feel 24' is the sweet spot for 1080p and the pls panel on this display does a superb job. the glossy frame is also very attractive and slim, putting the emphasis on the screen while still looking good. the capacitive buttons give an elegant feel.

Cons: its a little bit silly that they made this with a vga out instead of a dvi. i dont know who would buy this to use with vga. the lone hdmi port i guess is technically all you need but i would have liked the dvi option two (my computer hdmi out was already taken so i had to buy a dvi to hdmi cable to make use of the other port) the game mode feature doesn't really do too much. i believe it simply changes the presets to max the brightness contrast and sharpness. but ive found that with it enabled the sharpness is a little too much and will distort the image. it would have been nice to be able to edit the game mode settings and save it for future but alas you can only use what is pre programmed so you will probably set the monitor the way you like and end up not using the game mode button all together.

Overall Review: i'm really happy with this purchase overall. i had the white sd360 version just before this, and i think the black one overall looks better and the stand is a little sturdier. i would recommend this monitor to anyone who is looking to get a really quality 1080 display at a good price. the only better alternative right now would be to go 27' and 1440 and the cost for those can be double or triple this little gem.

ASUS P9X79 PRO LGA 2011 Intel X79 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with USB BIOS
ASUS P9X79 PRO LGA 2011 Intel X79 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with USB BIOS

Pros: looks nice, has the features i wanted. good cooling layout.

Cons: for new processors, you must completed the usb bios flashback. the instructions are very easy and the processes is very simple, except for the fact that it didn't work on my board. i verified 100x times the file was named correctly, i used the re-name tool from asus, and tried 8 different usb sticks to re flash the bios, nothing worked. nothing. all i got was a steady blue light indicating a problem. so now im doing my first ever rma and who knows what the new board will do when i get it.

almost amazing

SAMSUNG 23.6" PLS LCD Monitor PLS Panel 5ms (GTG) D-Sub, HDMI SD360 Series S24D360HL
SAMSUNG 23.6" PLS LCD Monitor PLS Panel 5ms (GTG) D-Sub, HDMI SD360 Series S24D360HL

Pros: if the review was for the screen only, i would have given it a 5. with a little tweaking the colors are really deep and poppy, and you can tell the quality of the pls display over regular tn panels. the white glossy frame is nice but i think the black version looks a tad better with the blue accent. (at least with my desk setup) also the stand is a little wobbly compared to the black version. the capacitive buttons give a really elegant feel to the build.

Cons: my monitor came with a dead pixel, which lead me to return it and try out the black version which had also just gone on sale. its also a little silly that these monitors come with a vga out instead a dvi port. i don't know anyone who would buy this monitor and use it through vga. i guess technically the hdmi port is all you need, but i would have made use of the dvi port if it had been there. also the game mode feature doesn't really do too much other than max the sharpness, brightness and contrast. but for me the sharpness on this mode overdoes it a little bit and ends up distorting the image a little too much. since you aren't able to edit and tweak the game mode preset, i ended up just setting the monitor up the way i like it and will probably never hit the game mode button.

Overall Review: overall this is really a 5 egg quality screen on a 3 or 4 egg quality setup. the glossy frame is attractive and nice to look at but thats about it as far as far as positives for the other features. for the price that this monitor comes at though, it may be worth it to you since this is about as good as 1080 can look at a really decent price, especially if you catch it on sale like i did. to get anything better looking you would need to start looking at 27' and 1440 resolution and those monitors can easily be double or triple the price of this one.

very close to perfect

SAMSUNG 23.6" PLS LCD Monitor PLS Panel 5ms (GTG) D-Sub, HDMI SD360 Series S24D360HL
SAMSUNG 23.6" PLS LCD Monitor PLS Panel 5ms (GTG) D-Sub, HDMI SD360 Series S24D360HL

Pros: If this review were for the screen by itself, it would be a 5 without question. the colors are really deep and poppy, and the pls panel displays 1080 about as good as you can view it imo on 24'. i did have 1 dead pixel though, which is part of the egg down and lead me to return it and order the black one that happened to go on sale the next week. in terms of design i actually prefer the black model. the white was nice but the stand on the sd390 is better and the high gloss frame looks better too imo.

Cons: some of these complaints are knit picky, but they are what separate 4 egg from 5 egg in my eyes -1 dead pixel which could not be revived (i spent a weekend with it and remained stuck) -no dvi in, just 1 vga and 1 hdmi. honestly i can't imagine why anyone would plug this in vgq and why they would ship it with that port and not dvi. -game mode doesnt really do anything but change the monitor preset, as far as i can tell all it does is up the brightness contrast and sharpness to max. after tinkering with the settings i found that it actually looked better with game mode not on but some of those settings turned up slightly.
