My Cloud issues

WD 3TB My Cloud Personal Network Attached Storage - NAS - WDBCTL0030HWT-NESN
WD 3TB My Cloud Personal Network Attached Storage - NAS - WDBCTL0030HWT-NESN

Pros: I do not write reviews very often but I believe anyone buying this drive should know about the good/bad. What the drive promises and what it may be capable of providing is fantastic. When it works, it is great and I feel is fairly fast (we have a fast network and very fast internet in our office so that may skew my opinions here). It was reasonably easy to setup but often may require a lot of tweaking to keep it going or perfect the connection. I have owned this drive now for approximately 4-months and it has been reliable for approximately 1 1/2 months of that time. The good news is the "Safepoint" backup function allows you to connect a USB drive to this drive and it will mirror itself on the attached drive and will send you an email or text to let you know the backup was successful. We have attached a 3TB WD MyBook to the 3TB My Cloud since the beginning, this has been our saving feature to prevent data loss and it works great.

Cons: I saw a reviewer remark that if all you know is drag and drop you may not be happy with this drive. I would carry that a little farther and say that if you are not extremely knowledgeable and comfortable with networking you will most certainly be disappointed with this device. I spent two months getting this drive to function and spent a lot of time on the phone with WD tech people (they are great to work with). The latest Firmware update came with a lot of issues, take a look at their forum, the WD community, you can google to find the address. I have now enjoyed roughly 45-days of great performance and reliable backup. I purchased this drive for data backup and cloud access to our company data, we do not use the photo/video streaming capabilities and I see on the forum that is a very big headache for a lot of people. For our use, the data backup may possibly work out, we are still in a wait and see mode and I could not recommend this drive to someone who is trying to backup critical data. However, for the home hobbyist that wants to watch videos and display photos and if they have a reliable backup for that data, this could be a very good device.

Overall Review: I would not recommend this drive as a backup for critical data at this time, my opinion may change as WD fixes problems. It can be a great device for the tech minded folks that like to tinker with settings/configurations and enjoy a challenge.
