Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit
Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Pros: Easy to install, and was able to load to be up and running in a little bit over an hour after all the updates were installed. Installed and worked flawlessly with all my components to include my 290x’s in crossfire.

Cons: None

Overall Review: Had a bad crash when I played with the Rampage Extreme Blk Ed Bios in an attempt to overclock. When the system rebooted it said there was a problem and it could not fix it no matter what I did. Even safe mode and trying to load at the last good config didn’t work. And when I tried to do a system restore it said no points were available which I know was not right because I made sure I had some just in case. So my advice is make sure you burn an image of your system as soon as you get all your drivers installed and get your computer the way you want it or you too will waste a full day having to re-install windows. And yes even though it was an OEM it allowed me to re-install it and re activate it without any problems.

Asus R9 290X in Crossfire

ASUS Radeon R9 290X 4GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support Video Card - Bundled with BF4 coupon and door hanger R9290X-G-4GD5
ASUS Radeon R9 290X 4GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support Video Card - Bundled with BF4 coupon and door hanger R9290X-G-4GD5

Pros: They installed easily and with no issues. Ran a 5% to mem and a 7% to GPU OC and worked very well in all Benchmarks with factory Cooler. The cards run hot, they seemed to hover around 90c to 94c. And yes the throttle back until they cool a bit at peak loads. I play rift and went from playing in low settings to all out ultimate+. All I can say is, it’s like playing a whole new game. Both the graphics and sound (I use HDMI) is awesome. And don’t get me started on BF4 on maxed settings. Now I am going to have to learn to play with zero lag lol… I am very happy with these cards.

Cons: They run hot and while they were designed to, they were throwing too much heat in my projector room turning it into a furnace. Plus with the fan set at 80 max at times it sounded like a airboat.

Overall Review: Last night I installed koolance water blocks on both and had a dramatic improvement on temps. With same overclock they now run between 40c to 44c ( From 90c to 94c prior) with 6 back to back haven benchmarks in 1080p ultimate/extreme with anti maxed. I am also happy to report as expected with the water blocks I get zero throttling down and best of all no sound they are now quiet. I really liked these cards before but with the water blocks, I out right love them now. Can’t wait to get home from work and play with the Oc’s on them. Very happy with these cards.

Intel Core i7-4930K - Core i7 4th Gen Ivy Bridge-E 6-Core 3.4 GHz LGA 2011 130W Desktop Processor - BX80633i74930K

Pros: Very nice CPU and worked very well with my MB. With ASUS software was able to OC to 4.5 with no problems and with temps at mid to low 40’s.

Cons: None

Overall Review: Worked well with a software over clock can’t wait to start manually Oc’ing it to see just how much juice I can pull from it. I also used a Corsair H100I to cool it.

SP120

Corsair Air Series SP120 High Performance Edition 120mm High Static Pressure Twin Pack Fan (CO-9050008-WW)
Corsair Air Series SP120 High Performance Edition 120mm High Static Pressure Twin Pack Fan (CO-9050008-WW)

Pros: They work very well, and are not very noisy like a few of the other fans I have tried. Put them on two radiators in push/pull and they seem to be doing what they were intended to.

Cons: Would have liked to see these come with 1 ¼ inch screws to help those of who set these up in push/pull configuration. But no worries Home Depot to the rescue.

ASUS Rampage BLK Ed

ASUS ROG RAMPAGE IV BLACK EDITION LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Gaming Motherboard
ASUS ROG RAMPAGE IV BLACK EDITION LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Gaming Motherboard

Pros: I put this MB in my new build (which in turn is the second build I have ever done) replacing the first I built back in 2005. Over all, was very easy to install and with just using the ASUS software I was able to clock my CPU to 4.5 so in all very happy. Once I do more research on how to safely overclock I will see how far this board will take me.

Cons: When I tried to use the code for the new Assassins Creed Black Flag it would not download and told me someone was already using that game key code. I have e-mailed the game company so we will see how that goes.

Overall Review: All I can say is this is a very nice looking board that is very easy to install and works wonders right out of the box. While the game code key was a bit of a letdown, I can’t blame Newegg for the failures of the game company.
