Other Thoughts: First, the obligatory whines. The handle is much like my kids toys, manufactured in china cheap. Right off, I stripped the screw holding down the battery compartment. The cheap screw which is totally unnecessary. Then I put the battery case back in wrong which made it very difficult to get the cap off again. Geez, c'mon. And then the accessories like the mirror are easy to attach but a b to get off. Cut your finger or break the mirror in half, take your pick.
I tried unsucessfully to get the resolution on this before purchasing. Anyway as expected it's 640x480, not HD so I found going around the house the picture is often too grainy to recognize what I'm looking at. The display resolution is 234x480. In my opinion it's adequate and even better than my large screen for identifying objects but a bit grainy for me. Plus, the picture rotate button adjusts only the display not the incoming video.
The led light on the end seems to be very good. This is what has turned me off before on these types of cameras. However, because of the camera resolution and fixed focal lens the light can create white outs. Fortunately, there are buttons on the gun to dim or brigten the light.
My first task was to check the dust and by product build up in the furnace. Didn't find it very useful for that; the resolution is too poor. Then I used it on my truck engine. It was cool to look inside my piston cylinders but not very useful. There's carbon build up but I don't have enough experience to tell if it's normal or not. Then I used it to look inside a new portable evap cooler I bought. Again, interesting but not that useful.
No zoom function. I'm not sure I understand the reverse function button but I found it useful to first point the camera at some text on a page so I could understand the orientation of the camera sensor to the display.
I'm sure sometime this will come in handy. I'm always running into situations where I can't see very clearly. But, to make this really useful, I need to find a way to capture the video because for my taste the resolution is not very good to make out what I'm looking at right away.
This review is from: Silicondust HDHR4-2US HDHomeRun CONNECT for Cord Cutters. Two ATSC OTA Network Tuners Multi User, Multi Room Live TV throughout your home. Compatible with HDHomeRun DVR, Plex, Android, Win10, Mac, iOS
Pros: Easy to set up pc dvr but setting up a media server with the rest of your network is a different story.
Can stream to android phone or tablet.
Cons: Unless you want to watch OTA on your pc, or want a pc dvr, or don't own a digital tv, or tuner, then this has little usefulness. Must of what they state on their website and product box is nonsense.
No documentation whatsoever.
Other Thoughts: I bought this because I have a spare b-player with wireless and I wanted to use it in another room to watch tv without having to run another antenna line or micky mouse with another indoor antenna. Also, I wanted to record OTA broadcasts which I usually miss.
For the first purpose, this is a dud. My LG b-player can't see the dlna server on the tuner. If I use their app (cost separately) to stream from the tuner to my tablet and then to the LG (and tv) it works but only for a couple of minutes and then it's dead. If I use my Sony b-player, I can stream from the tuner to the b-player but that's completely worthless to me.
Setting up a pc dvr was very simple but not entirely because of this tuner. I mean most of the simplicity is in windows media center. Once I had the antenna placed and got good reception (this is very important) using windows media center to set up recording is great. Very slick. Much like using a cable dvr. However (and this is not an issue with the tuner), I have not found a way to stream these to my tv with either of my b-player boxes but I don't know if it's the pc server, or the b-players, or both.
There's literally no documentation with this box and no explanation of the setup app or the config app. This is ridiculous and inexcusable. Not happy that I had to spend so much time figuring out what works, and doesn't work, and work thru the hype.
And this box is really overhyped, literally. I have the product box in front of me and it shows a tv or monitor connected to a router. Huh? If you have a smart tv, or even a digital tv, I can't see why you would use this tuner. All you can do with this box is stream and change channels which is more useful directly from your tv. Similarly, I can't see why you want to stream to a b-player (also in the box diagram). It's just another way of streaming to your tv. If you don't have a tv, or a digital tuner, that's different.
Note, the digital signal is very important. You need an excellent antenna and you need excellent signal strength for each channnel.
You can stream to android if you buy their app. This may be the only reason I don't return this. I find it sometimes useful to watch e.g. the, news at the same time as something else but a picture-in-picture would also work, if you have it on your tv. You can also stream from android to a b-player and thus to your tv but again why would you want to? Note too, how well this works depends on your antenna reception. I mean, the app messes up in strange ways if you're not getting excellent reception.
Setting up your own pc dvr is the only reason I can see to buy this box (or if you just like to watch tv on your pc or laptop). I'm not sure what other options are available. I bought this on a whim. The last time I bought a tv tuner was about 15 years ago. It cost a bit more but had many more features like video input and capture which this doesn't do, so in my opinion this is overpriced and o
Pros: none whatsoever
Cons: bought two of these and both left serious streaks in everything I printed. i couldn't return it because i already clipped out the upc symbol.READ FULL REVIEW
