Overall Review: People who have such awful issues with this product simply aren't reading the instructions and setting it up properly, and they probably have unreasonable expectations for the product. Do your due dilligence, take a few minutes and set it up right - and you'll never have a problem. And it's not hard. That's why I'm mystified by one of the reviews here and the ones on the Apple website. I feel like there is unreasonable negativity from some people. The Cloud Box does exactly what it's advertised to do. It works great. Just not as fast as I'd like (I have a completely wired, fast, home network). I feel like this product should be a bit faster at what it does. Despite that, it's great for family use, and you can separate and secure data easily. Media stream is flawless, and data transfer is sufficient for average home user (30-40 MB/s)... I have my thunderbolt external for media and file back up and time capsule for time machine as the Cloud Box isn't meant to be the end-all for home NAS or backup needs. It's a little media server for basic home use, and it works great for what it is meant to be... I mean, look at the price. It's pretty cheap, and in my mind, a great value.

Overall Review: I'm usually a LaCie guy for storage, but this item is really good for the money, and the performance is there. The biggest myth out there is that you need Thunderbolt to have fast read-write speeds; but if you're not moving data between SSDs, you're not going to even remotely approach Thunderbolt's 10Gb/s speeds. Firewire 800 and Thunderbolt will both get you about 80MB/s of real-world read-write speed when you have 7200 RPM disks in your laptop and in your external drive. The potential read-write speeds that the bus can handle won't matter if you have two hard disks spinning as fast as they can. That being said, this product is every bit as good as any other external drive that doesn't have an SSD. For the money, it can't be beat.
