Great CPU!
Pros: - Easy Overclock to 4.8GHz without batting an eyelash - Temps are low (Other people report high temps, I got luck) - Saw vastly improved performance in games vs my 2500k.
Cons: None yet.
Overall Review: I overclocked this CPU to 4.8GHz and ran Prime95 for 24 hours. Using a Corsair H100i to cool it, it ran at around 70C during that test. Runs around 30-34C idle and around 55-60C when gaming.
High Failure Rate, Short Warranty
Pros: Small form factor, stylish case.
Cons: Bought 3. 2 failed in a significant way, within 60 days. The 3rd, runs like garbage and has some disk errors in the log. Most likely the HDD will be failing soon. That will make 3 out of 3 failed within 2-3 months (depending on how long this lasts.
Overall Review: I would avoid these machines at all costs. Whoever refurbished them, did a bad job.
Best Motherboard I've Ever Owned!
Pros: - VERY solid construction (heavy mobo, feels very solid) - Easy-to-use bios - Overclocked my 4770k to 4.8GHz with a single button press. - Aesthetically pleasing
Cons: -1 egg because the optional assist fans are a bit loud on anything other than the "silent" setting. I had the Asus AI Suite auto adjusting the fans, and when the system was idle, the assist fans would constantly rev between 3k (silent) and 7k (very loud) RPM's. Instead of having it automated, I set them to the "Silent" setting. They run at around 3k RPM's and you can't hardly hear them.
Overall Review: This is the BEST motherboard I've ever owned. I just switched from a Maximus IV Extreme, and I don't see myself ever going back to that line of motherboards. I'm sticking with Sabertooth FOREVER! Basically the same bios and it feels much more solidly built.
Great Monitors
Pros: - Great color quality - Nice adjustment options - 5ms = nice responsive display - Nice BRIGHT image - Built in speakers
Cons: Although I put the speakers down as a pro, the sound quality out of them is pretty low. But then again... What do you expect for built in speakers?
Overall Review: We purchased 24 of these monitors for our graphic design department (2 per workstation). They replaced some very ancient CRT monitors and our designers could not be happier with these monitors. These are being used to design ads and do layout for a newspaper, so color reproduction is a very big deal and these monitors are about as close as we can get to what is coming off of our printing press, without spending 10x more per screen. Been considering stealing a couple of these off of the designers desks for my desk!
Decent Board... if it works
Pros: The board has a few pros. - Looks nice - Great bios - Easy CPU overclocking
Cons: Asus has gone downhill. I've used them for the past 20 years, almost exclusively. If they make a product, this is the brand I've gone with for that product. However, this motherboard has shaken my faith in this company. The first one I got wouldn't even post. It didn't detect the processor (brand new i5 2500k). I called Newegg and they RMA'd it as an advanced RMA with no problems. They took my credit card info in case I didn't return the old mobo, but they didn't bill me (this is standard practice for advanced RMA's). The second mobo did OK, until recently (about 7 months of ownership). The top 5 USB ports on the I/O panel died. I called Asus and they determined I'd need an RMA. They asked if I'd like an advanced replacement and I said yes to that. Asus then proceeded to attempt to charge me $335 for this motherboard, before they would even ship the replacement. Then it took them 3 days after submitting my RMA paperwork, to tell me that they were going to charge me the money before they sent it. Terrible terrible customer service.
Overall Review: I'm the head of IT for a large company. So, I deal with warranty claims on a regular basis. This has been, by far, my worst warranty experience. I'm very disappointed in Asus. Gigabyte actually stands by their products and is quick about RMA's with free overnight shipping (if you ask nicely). I'm not a Gigabyte convert.
Great Capture Card (Re-Review)
Pros: There are many pros to this card, now. 1) Looks Nice 2) Simple install 3) Great support from AVerMedia 4) Good quality sound and video recording 5) Going to support AVI output soon 6) Many new features on the horizon, that will be nice 7) Responsive customer service. 8) Produces WAY smaller files that software-based recorders (about 800MB for 1 minute of high-quality 1080p recording). 9) Makes streaming very simple and easy 10) The files it produces are 100% ready to be placed directly on Youtube, if you do not want/need to edit.
Cons: Not many now. 1) Software that ships with the device is completely worthless. 2) You may need to update the firmware if you want to record above 720p or 15,000kbps bitrate. This can risk bricking the card. 3) Initial release was rocky, but issues have been resolved.
Overall Review: I previously reviewed this product and gave it 2 eggs. I have update the review to what you see here. I have been reporting issues and giving feedback on the AVerMedia support forums. Through this process, AVerMedia approached me and asked if I would be willing to help test an unreleased beta build of their driver. I can tell you that once that version of the driver is officially released, the card will function nearly perfect. That driver release, combined with the upcoming features being added, makes this card a good buy. AVerMedia is a good company that obviously stands by its products and works to serve their customers. I give this 4 eggs instead of 5, simply because of the initial trouble that I had with it. It feels like they really should have done some more QA before fully releasing this product. But, they have fixed the major issues at this point. If I purchased this card and had access to the test driver from the beginning, this would have been 5 eggs all the way.
