Huawei MateBook HZ-W19 Intel Core M5 6Y54 (1.10 GHz) 8 GB Memory 256 GB SSD 12
  • neweggOwned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: The device is physically well found; the bezel is narrow, the screen is really nice, bright and well saturated. The feel is of a quality unit. The performance is more than adequate, the 2nd gen m5's are clearly superior to the first gen. Lots of RAM and storage, which is pleasantly un-tablet like. The accessories are attractive and came in a special bundle from Newegg Business, which is the ONLY way it should ship. The included MonitorManage utility is clever and useful, something I rarely say about OEM utilities. Even the included update utility is less an obnoxious advertisement than most. Also - UPDATES! Always a worry with a new mfg and device - is it going to be abandoned? Running the Fast Ring of Windows 10 right now with no issues. Interesting take a on a stylus with the included laser pointer/cat toy. Surprisingly good speakers with a Dolby control panel. Makes me want to look at the Huawei phones. Good PC standard disk performance, SATA not horrible Atom eMMC. Very attractive presentation, with positive comments from my users. Finally, the fingerprint sensor is among the two best I've ever used, along with the Lenovo X1 Tablet - clearly superior to everyone else's.

Cons: No LTE radio option - Lenovo and HP have it for the high-end tablets, the Surface Pro 4 doesn't either. No Windows 10 Pro - business devices, which this is priced to be, should have Pro. Docking block stinks, it won't charge when connected and it gets HOT. The keyboard is decent but the functionality as a stand is seriously broken - and the likelihood of 3rd party support is low. It's a 2-in-1 that you can't prop on your desk. No rear facing camera - is it really, then, a tablet? No SD card support. ONE USB Type-C port, that's it. With the poor showing of the dock, not a good sign to have to use a dongle for everything. A 2nd Type-C would be welcome. For a Core m5 to come in at a pricepoint like this, the value needs to be clear, and it is not in this iteration. The Newegg Business bundle was the only reason I felt comfortable buying a test example. Definitely worth testing.

Other Thoughts: LOTS of potential, I hope Huawei follows Microsoft's lead and keeps at it - I hope the 2nd gen gets the product line where it could be. I can't help but think a lot of smart people worked on this device, I'd like to see what else they can do. I'd also like to see what other products are out there from Huawei.

ThinkCentre Desktop PC M93p Tiny (10AB0010US) Intel Core i5 4570T (2.90 GHz) 4 GB DDR3 500 GB HDD Intel HD Graphics 4600 Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
  • neweggOwned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: Even if it wasn't tiny, this would be a very good business desktop. The M93p takes standard DDR3L SO-DIMM's, so bumping to 8 GB is easy. SSD's are a good upgrade, as well. The compact form factor still has support for dual-monitors and GbE in addition to a WiFi adapter. Plenty of USB ports and a good quality power supply round out a neat little unit. Ordering two more today.

Cons: Price before huge discount, for $800 I would want a box I can put a second drive in.

Other Thoughts: Perfect for business use in most situations, compelling price point.

StarTech MSTP3MDPUGBK Surface Pro 3 HDMI VGA and Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Bundle – MDP to HDMI / VGA – USB 3.0 to GbE
  • neweggOwned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: I bought this kit for my Surface Pro 3 to make it possible to have an Ethernet connection AND a USB-->Serial going at the same time - I use a GoldX cable plugged into the passthrough USB, works perfectly. Takes all the hassle out of using a Surface to program switches and routers. I have since bought a couple more for my Controls people that are programming buildings and production lines with the same Ethernet/Serial combo, and will have to buy more as I deploy more of the Surface units. The Controls folks have also used the video out dongles to do on-site training for customers, driving big displays for multiple users to view.

Cons: I would be fine with the tether being half as long, kind of floppy as it is.

Other Thoughts: Great combo of features, and good pricing.
