Most Favorable Review

Great gaming rig with a reasonable price

Gigabyte Aorus 15P - 15.6" 144 Hz - Intel Core i7-10750H - GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q - 16 GB DDR4 - 512 GB SSD - Windows 10 Home - Gaming Laptop (Aorus 15P WB-7US1130SH)
Gigabyte Aorus 15P - 15.6" 144 Hz - Intel Core i7-10750H - GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q - 16 GB DDR4 - 512 GB SSD - Windows 10 Home - Gaming Laptop (Aorus 15P WB-7US1130SH)

Pros: This is a nicely sized machine, has enough cooling to handle the hot Intel and Nvidia chips. Keyboard is solid and you can tone down all that flashy lighting with the add-on software from Gigabyte. Nice narrow bezels on the screen, very totable size over all, not thick and heavy like some brands have at similar price point. The system has 2 NVMe slots, so I popped in EX950 2TB drives for plenty of room for apps and games.

Cons: It would be nice if the screen were brighter, and the video camera could have been deleted rather than placed below the display - up the nose isn't a useful view!

Overall Review: It's massive overkill for anything other than gaming, but despite the compact size it has PLENTY of horsepower for doing just that!

Most Critical Review

Great features and great pricing let down by poor performance

ASUS ZenScreen MB16AMT 15.6" Full HD 1920 x 1080 USB Type-C Micro-HDMI Non-Glare HDCP Support Flicker-Free Built-in Speakers Low Blue Light Touchscreen Portable IPS Monitor
ASUS ZenScreen MB16AMT 15.6" Full HD 1920 x 1080 USB Type-C Micro-HDMI Non-Glare HDCP Support Flicker-Free Built-in Speakers Low Blue Light Touchscreen Portable IPS Monitor

Pros: The price is very reasonable for a touchscreen display with onboard battery. The screen is bright and the speakers are actually OK, and the stand/cover combination is clever. The touchscreen works well but it isn't really as useful as I expected, the notebook touchscreen is much more important.

Cons: My EliteBook 1030 x360 G3 couldn't supply enough power to keep it charged, so I couldn't use the Type-C connector. For that matter, I couldn't keep it charged with a 45w charger (no charger included). I had to find a 65w charger, though my i7 notebook runs perfectly on that same 45w travel charger. The display will put itself into a sleep mode and refuse to reconnect through the supplied HDMI cable. I thought it was dead once, no result from searching for a reset method. The battery finally exhausted itself, and from 0% charge (bad for battery) it came back to life eventually.

Overall Review: Neat idea but not reliable and not what I need for work. Also not very portable when you have to carry a separate power brick around, since it won't charge from a notebook's Type-C connection.

Disappointed and irritated - freaked out white LED

STM stm-931-323Z-01 White ChargeTree Swing
STM stm-931-323Z-01 White ChargeTree Swing

Pros: It shipped reasonably fast. It looks OK, nothing special but nothing weird.

Cons: After using for a few days, the controller freaked out and started blinking the white LED at the bottom of the stand - for no obvious reason. Whether a phone was charging or not. In the middle of the night, in a dark room.

Overall Review: For that price, look for an alternative named brand with a track record.

Grown up Chromebook is an outstanding tool

HP Elite Dragonfly 13.5" Chromebook - WUXGA+ - 1920 x 1280 - Intel Core i5 12th Gen i5-1245U Deca-core (10 Core) 1.20 GHz - 8 GB Total RAM - 8 GB On-board Memory - 128 GB SSD - Intel Chip - Chrom

Pros: Sleek, performant, and overall a great computer that happens to be a Chromebook. HP makes great business grade notebooks, and this is one of them, despite it doesn't run Windows. EXCELLENT screen, with a great keyboard and long battery life in spite of / because of the over-powered Intel CPU. Disk performance is excellent, as well - which, with the Chrome browser writing to a database constantly, actually matters!

Cons: Maybe more local storage would be good? Also, people expect Chromebooks to be $199, which gets you a trash device, so HP should educate people that real computers are worth the money.

Overall Review: RE-sets my expectations for what a Chromebook should be, and can be. STILL cheaper than an equivalent Windows device, which is impressive.

Netgear needs a wakeup call from actual use cases

Netgear Powerline 2000 Extender, 2000Mbps, Wall-plug , Extra Outlet, 2 Extenders, PLP2000-100PAS
Netgear Powerline 2000 Extender, 2000Mbps, Wall-plug , Extra Outlet, 2 Extenders, PLP2000-100PAS

Pros: Works OK, comparable to competitors. Dual ports is a great feature, EXCEPT - see cons.

Cons: What doofus product team came up with a powerline adapter, WITH a power plug passthrough, that BLOCKS the top power plug in a two plug unit!??!?! This is for use in a very small office or home with limited cabling options. Idiotic design of the case blocks BOTH US style power plugs when installed, making it completely unsuited for the US market. FAIL.

Overall Review: Don't bother, it's not what you want if you live in the US.

Still the best conference camera on the market (we've tried out MANY)

Logitech Brio 4K Webcam, Ultra 4K HD Video Calling, Noise-Canceling mic, HD Auto Light Correction, Wide Field of View, Works with Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Voice, PC/Mac/Laptop/Macbook/Tablet
Logitech Brio 4K Webcam, Ultra 4K HD Video Calling, Noise-Canceling mic, HD Auto Light Correction, Wide Field of View, Works with Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Voice, PC/Mac/Laptop/Macbook/Tablet

Pros: Very good business use performance in a wide variety of lighting conditions, with very good sound performance. Very long lived, have some units over six years old. NO stupid gimmicks for "content producers" that have contaminated the webcam space - it's a meeting, not a "makeup tutorial". Solid form factor, also very important. The USB-C support is very much appreciated, and was a rarity in 2018 - part of being long lived, for sure. Crushes the much newer (rhymes with smell) 4K camera, which also lacks a microphone (!!). Have been buying spares ahead of the market exit, that's how much we like the Brio!

Cons: It's OLD, and the supposed update/replacement lacks the Windows Hello facial recognition integration. None of our users care to give that up for "AI features" no one needs in a meeting.

Overall Review: It will be a bummer when this goes out of production, if it hasn't already. Without a "better" replacement, the Brio is still the top of the heap for business webcams.

I've had very good results with the cartridges from LD and I appreciate the bundling options available for even greater savings. The delivery is inexpensive AND quick, which is even better.
