Design Flaw

StarTech.com 2 Port PCI Express eSATA Controller Adapter Card Model PEXESATA2
StarTech.com 2 Port PCI Express eSATA Controller Adapter Card Model PEXESATA2

Pros: Good concept, good price - if you need to hot swap devices this can really save you a lot of time. Great if you are short on eSATA connections.

Cons: Card is made with a slight design flaw that you may not even notice but it could cause the card to appear not to work. The exterior slots for the eSATA plugs on the outside plate are not centered. In fact, they are so close to the edge that most likely your computer case frame (around the slot) will interfere with the plug being inserted 100%. That last little 8th of an inch can keep your device from getting a firm seat into the connection. It will appear to not be recognizing any device. After installing the card I could not get any connectivity from anything I plugged in. I tried everything (Bios updates, changing to a different PE slot, etc.). Only when I noticed the device plugs were not going all the way in was I able to press it in hard - and then I could see the connection being made on the PC screen popup. You may have to try to move the card to the side a bit before you screw it into place OR cut your case frame to allow the plugs to go more easily into place.

Overall Review: What price do you put on the time spent and wasted trying to get something so simple to install? The cost of the item was nothing compared to the hours invested to find and adjust for this very basic design flaw. I hope this "heads up" saves someone a lot of time and aggravation. I am sure some of the people who purchased this may have thought that it didn't work at all.

TRENDnet TEW-652BRP 802.11b/g/n Wireless N Home Router up to 300Mbps/ 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Port x4

Pros: Low price

Cons: Everything else

Overall Review: I also bought 2 of these routers (at the same time) and both had signal drops in different locations. Both of them began flashing "Cable unplugged" then "Cable connected" over and over again on several hardwired PCs. I would not buy this model again! I replaced them with a really old Linksys router I had laying around and everything began working correctly. I also looked for an update for firmware but there was none available.

Save your time and money

HP Deskjet 3050 CH376A Up to 20 ppm Black Print Speed 4800 x 1200 dpi Color Print Quality USB / Wi-Fi Thermal Inkjet MFC / All-In-One Color Printer
HP Deskjet 3050 CH376A Up to 20 ppm Black Print Speed 4800 x 1200 dpi Color Print Quality USB / Wi-Fi Thermal Inkjet MFC / All-In-One Color Printer

Pros: Worked for a while. Now prints with gaps in every other or third line. This sits at my 87 year old mother's computer - so it is not getting overly used.

Cons: Print heads need cleaning. Supposed to be pretty straight forward. However the machine is stuck in a print alignment loop. Everytime you turn it on or try to print it prints another alignment page. Alignment page is so bad that the scanner does not even see it - so it starts all over again. Followed HP directions to clean heads - still does the same thing. Followed HP instructions to clean heads manually - still does the same thing. HP instructions - turn off printer remove cartridges and wait 2 hours. Then I plug it back in and see the same thing again and again. 2 hours wasted. My suggested instructions: unplug and drop in nearest dumpster.

Overall Review: Why does HP force the alignment process? It uses a lot of ink and never occurs at a convenient time. Why doesn't HP provide a way to turn it off? HP continues to place icons for bloatware all over the desktop. HP continues to force you to use up ink (alignment and cleaning) and then recommends you only buy their ink . It is not cheap. You can call HP support if you have two more hours of your life to spare - then talk with some guy in India with a thick accent who calls himself "Elvis" while he walks you through all the things you already tried.

NOCO GB30 Ultrasafe Lithium Jump Starter

Pros: Great idea.

Cons: Purchased as a holiday gift - found out the first time they needed the device they connected it and it smoked. Never worked since.

Do Not Do It

ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS AM3+ AMD 760G + SB710 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS AM3+ AMD 760G + SB710 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: It comes in a nice box.

Cons: Just forget about getting this board. As reported by others wonky video issues on two out of two of these that I purchased. I don't even want to return them to ASUS as I never want to see another one of these boards again. I suggest you avoid any of the LX models.

Overall Review: Try the other ASUS models - normally very few problems with them. I only use ASUS MB in my builds this is the first series I had issues with.

Cable connection is NOT shockproof

ADATA 1TB HD710 Waterproof / Dustproof / Shock-Resistant USB 3.0 External Hard Drive USB 3.0 Model AHD710-1TU3-CBL Blue
ADATA 1TB HD710 Waterproof / Dustproof / Shock-Resistant USB 3.0 External Hard Drive USB 3.0 Model AHD710-1TU3-CBL Blue

Pros: looks nice - worked well when brand new.

Cons: While the case itself may be rubber covered and shockproof - the cable connection is really weak. Once it gets a little banged you can forget getting it to stay connected. Slightest touch or movement will disconnect and interrupt whatever you are doing.

Waste of TIme

Unit arrived smashed. RMA took so long to get into place that they were out of replacement units by the time it was done. Now I get a refund after two months that they have had my money!
