Works with Linux Mint
Pros: Works fine with Linux Mint, kernel 3.5.0-17-generic Faster than USB 2.0 Price was right
Cons: none
Overall Review: lshw reports this as a Renesas Technology USB controller. Works with Rosewill RDCR-11003 card reader. Mobo is MSI 760GM-P34 (FX).
Quality issue
Pros: Functions just like the OEM cable.
Cons: The outer insulation separated from the strain relief near the lightning connector after a few weeks of moderate use. The wires inside are exposed now, so I don't expect it to last much longer.
Overall Review: I'm about as easy on my equipment as anybody, so it's pretty rare that things fall apart on me. This wasn't even my primary cable - I use it less than 50% of the time. This looks like a poor design. The strain relief was made with almost no overlap over the outer insulation, so this separation was inevitable.
Great office speakers
Pros: I was looking for something with more hi-fi sound for my office than my 2.1 computer speakers (which were already pretty good). These B-10s definitely hit the mark. Acoustic guitar, piano and vocals sound like they're right there in front of me. It's awesome.
Cons: The bass in these isn't huge, but it's there. If you want to shake the walls you shouldn't be looking at compact bookshelf speakers. These speakers have no audiophile cred on the Internet. Even the Klipsch website shows them as discontinued. Apparently they're still making them under the radar as the box for mine had a very recent manufacture date. So you have to give up any bragging rights and let the sound speak for itself.
Overall Review: I have these powered by an SMSL SA-36A amp. Sounds much better than a pair of $100 speakers and a $52 amp have a right to. If I had it to do over again I would have sprung the $16 extra for the higher powered SMSL SA-50 as the B-10s can take everything my little amp can give them. That said, this system can crank it in my office much louder than I normally want and the quality is there all the way to maximum.
Be prepared to give your personal info
Pros: Nice package of games for the kiddos. Plugged it in and everything works great.
Cons: Microsoft requires a TON of personal info just to set up a Live Silver account. I had to do it to redeem a Microsoft points card. That was the deciding factor for me to not upgrade to Gold. No good reason why MS needs my dob, address, etc. just to buy and download a game.
Overall Review: Packaging from Newegg was light: just a layer of peanuts between the outside box and the product box. One corner was smashed in on both boxes when it arrived. Fortunately the Xbox itself is pretty well padded inside so it works fine.
Nice, but slow to deliver
Pros: Nice price. Points redeemed fine.
Cons: Oddly, this package spent over a week from when it was "shipped" to when it actually started moving. Ordered on 11/25. "Shipped" on 11/26. "Arrived at FedEx location" on 12/4. Not a big deal since it was a Christmas gift. But would have made me really uncomfortable if I'd ordered closer to the last minute. I've ordered many times from Newegg and never seen this happen before.
Overall Review: The amount of personal info I had to give Microsoft to set up a Live account so that my son could redeem this was obscene.
Nice printer for home office
Pros: Printing pages with graphics is MUCH faster than the 2170DW it replaced. Warm-up is relatively fast. Setup with wired network connection is easy. Duplex printing rocks.
Cons: Brother's Linux driver works, but apparently Brother thinks all Linux users are still command line experts. On my AMD 64 Ubuntu Lucid Lynx box I had to dpkg two driver packages using the --force-architecture option. Brother doesn't post AMD 64 packages or the exact commands to install the driver on AMD 64. That's pretty poor considering how far Ubuntu package management and system updates have come. This wasn't too much trouble for me, but for today's average Joe Ubuntu user it might be.
