TRENDnet TPL-401E Powerline 500 AV Adapter Up to 500Mbps
TRENDnet TPL-401E Powerline 500 AV Adapter Up to 500Mbps

Pros: For conveneince, security, and ease of use. Beats Wireless N+ by far! encryption/decryption eats up speed of wireless and wired, but, Wired is faster. Older homes/most homes, are NOT wired with category(cat)5e or cat6 twisted pair for 10/100/1000 ethernet, nor do most have fiber for networking. I connected one to my multi-layer modem/router from my ISP, with the click of the button, got the encryption set, without having to manually configure, I then clicked in the ethernet cable and plugged the TPL-401E into my outlet, and the entire house now has ethernet available at any power outlet. Just obtain another TPL-401E and plug in any device needing internet access. VERY VERY FAST!. STREAMING tv ON OUR SMART TV ROCKS! FORGET WIRLESS UNLESS NO OTHER WAY.

Cons: cannot use power strips with spike protection(joules) as the spike protector power strip filters out the ethernet communications as 'noise' as the filters are 'dumb' e=ir filtration and the ethernet packets tcp & udp are collateral lost. IF you have a full house electricity filter for spike protection wired correctly at your main circuit-breaker panel, then you may be ok, IF you use spike strips internally on big equipment so that even though you isolated the house from external power spikes from the power company and tree downings on lines sending spikes, and brown-outs causing fluxes in e=ir relationship, then you still can get spikes from hair dryers, vacume cleaners, drills, saws, other kitchen type appliances with big-draws, electric weed-wackers, etc. IF you do all correctly, which you should even without this device, to protect all of your expensive electronics, this unit rocks!!!! You will need them in a pair to start, and then single units after that for each node/thing you want on to have internet or intranet access.
