Lenovo Laptop IdeaPad Intel Core i5-2450M 6GB Memory 500GB HDD AMD Radeon HD 6470M 14.0" Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit U400 (09932JU)
Lenovo Laptop IdeaPad Intel Core i5-2450M 6GB Memory 500GB HDD AMD Radeon HD 6470M 14.0" Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit U400 (09932JU)

Pros: Core i5 processor, 6gb ddr3 ram, very sleek design. 2 graphics cards, the standard intel 3000 intel and also a Radeon 6470M giving the best of both worlds (power conservation and graphics power) Having a usb 3.0 port and a HDMI output are both a plus. Overall this unit has a very smooth feel that reminds me of a macbook.

Cons: the stylish all in one body design makes upgrading any part of the unit difficult. There is no option to get a SSD built in so if you want one in this unit you must be willing to do the upgrade yourself. The entire bottom which is the cover for all the components is only secured by 2 screws and a few plastic tabs. I upgraded the ram to 8gb and the hard drive to a 120gb ssd and in doing so i broke one of the plastic tabs. If it wasnt for this design and the lack of BluRay capabilities i would give it 5 stars

Overall Review: as with any purchase reading reviews on similar models is a good way to help with the decision process. Write down what features you are looking for and the price range you are planning on spending.

Excellent Earphones. Headphone amp suggested

SONY XBA-4 Balanced Armature Headphones-4 Drivers
SONY XBA-4 Balanced Armature Headphones-4 Drivers

Pros: Great separation of bass, mids and treble, probably due to the 4 way speaker setup in a earphone which i had never seen before.Great clarity. decent build quality. great noise isolation

Cons: high price. Requires a high quality amplifier with a higher output than what mp3 players and portable devices have built in. Non detachable cord.

Overall Review: I got these headphones a few months ago. I am not new to the headphone or earphone market, i have owned headphones from the 10 dollar range all the way up to 1200 dollars. the last earphones i owned were ones made by Etymotic research, model ER-4 which i liked alot but the sound degraded over a few months and then i had a problem with the cord. when i got the sony XBA-4 the first thing i noticed was that none of my portable devices sounded good, they sounded like they were straining to run them so i purchased a portable amplifier made by a company called FiiO the model is E07K. when this amp arrived i connected it to my computers usb port where it can be an external soundcard and when i checked out my music collection i was AMAZED!!! I could hear each instrument perfectly, the treble, mids and bass were all able to play without affecting one another. I also could hear HUGE differences between different quality mp3s and audio sources. So the most important things to consider when choosing these are what quality recordings are you listening to and having a high quality amp with enough power to drive all 4 speakers.

Fast and efficient

Intel X25-E SSDSA2SH064G101 2.5" 64GB SATA II SLC Enterprise Solid State Disk
Intel X25-E SSDSA2SH064G101 2.5" 64GB SATA II SLC Enterprise Solid State Disk

Pros: -SLC technology with very fast read and write times -low power consumption -rugged, good for on-the-go computing

Cons: -expensive -not a whole lot of space for the cost (compared to MLC type SSD's)

Overall Review: i own 4 SSD units, 1 is intel, 2 are OCZ and the last is a SaberTooth. 3 out of 4 are SLC type memory which i find to be quite superior to MLC if very fast read/write are neccesary. If I were to buy another SSD today and price didnt matter i would choose either Intel or OCZ.

Great performance, Great price!

TOSHIBA Laptop Qosmio Intel Core i7-740QM 6GB Memory 500GB HDD 64 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M 18.4" Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit X505-Q898
TOSHIBA Laptop Qosmio Intel Core i7-740QM 6GB Memory 500GB HDD 64 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M 18.4" Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit X505-Q898

Pros: -Top of the line core i7 processor, fast Nvidia GTX 460M GPU, -Largest screen ive ever seen on a laptop, -Having an SSD and a decently fast mechanical hard drive for mass storage is excellent. -The sound on this unit is superior to any laptop i have owned in the past. -The performance and overall luxury that this machine provides is an excelent value when you compare it to Alienware/XPS systems if you cant afford the brand name. -No regrets at all about buying this system and i have owned it for 3 months now

Cons: -no USB 3.0 ports, although you can always add a card for that later on. -short battery life, but that is something i expected when buying a laptop with such high end features -comes with the usual extra junk software that i uninstalled after buying, most machines come with this though -had an issue getting ubuntu 10.10 running on here correctly with this graphics card

Overall Review: before buying this unit also check out the ASUS G73JW-A1 or if you dont mind doing some easy work and have extra money buy the Qosmio X505-Q896 which has all the same specs except insted of a SSD and a 500GB drive it just has the 500GB and insted of 6GB ram it comes with 4GB. if you get the 896 you can always upgrade these parts on your own with ones that you choose to get a little more performance. If you do decide to get a Q896 insted and want to add a 2nd hard drive you will need the bracket/mount. The part number for this from toshiba is Part Number: PQX33U-01J00H
