Great Business & Gaming Laptop
Pros: - Fast - Whisper quiet - Elegant - Light - Great value for features
Cons: - Shows finger prints
Overall Review: UPDATE: Adjusting the screen color settings with the provided Intel utility has resulted in beautiful vivid graphics. 5 EGGS TO ACER I wanted a laptop that looks like its built for business but can also play intensive games. This one fits the requirements perfectly with high performance components without the boy racer looks of the other gaming laptops. Great fluid performance on Eve-online but I do notice the images being paler in this game. Perhaps I need to fine tune the settings (see update above). On business applications, it is instantaneously responsive. This is my first Acer and I had some concerns if it would present like a quality product. But I am pleased to say that it looks quite elegant. The battery seems fine. Highly recommended. 5 EGGS TO NEWEGG BTW, there was a price drop between when I ordered and when it arrive. I asked Newegg for an adjustment and was given it. I have been a Newegg customer for 15+ years and Newegg continues to impress.
They don't make them like they use to
Pros: Easy clone & install with WD's verrsion of Acronis. Not overly slow. Large capacity. Great price. Handy WD utilities for finding out that your drive is about to die.... Easy RMA process. 3 years warranty.
Cons: Exessive bad sectors after 18 months. Need to RMA.
Overall Review: Having been in IT since the 80's I remember when HDD's were like CPU's - it was almost unheard of that they would fail. I still have 13GB & 40GB WD drives from the 1990's which worke fine. WD's management must be goaled only on units shipped - because if they had quality or brand perception in they goals - they would have never let a drive on the market that gets user reviews like this one. While I expect to get a new drive thru RMA - I cannot trust it for my backups - so what's the point? I do notice that the Samsungs get much better reviews....
Make sure to use a USB 3.1 port
Pros: Great price for capacity ($79) Efficient capless compact design Ok performance
Cons: Neither supersonic or even raging performance Abysmal on USB 2.0 performance Not as fast as Corsair Slider X1
Overall Review: If you are seeing 40/15 MB/s read/write (CrystalMark) performance - you are probably using a USB 2.0 port. I had this initially but after checking the USB port layout on my motherboard (Z270), I moved it to a USB 3.1 port and the performance jumped to 300/170 MB/s read/write. Which is nowhere near the advertised specs. My Corsair Slider X1 gives 387/343 MB/s read/write on the same system. Copying 18GB of backup files produced an average write of 200 MB/s. I am using the Rage2 for occasional backups, so the ok performance doesn't justify returning it and the GB/$ ratio is good.
Amazing
Pros: Performance
Cons: none
Overall Review: I upgraded my PC from a SATA III SSD to this M.2 SDD and the Windows boot times improved from 20 seconds to 5 seconds!
Easiest install ever
Pros: Works out of the box Fast Quiet Quality sound M.2 connectors Overclocking software Pretty
Cons: The MSI overclocking software is not very intuitive.
Overall Review: I have to say that this was the easiest install I have ever done. Installed the motherboard and components and it booted the first time and every time for 2 months. The motherboard software is set up to overclock the i7-7700K to 4.5GHz by default with easy overclocking higher. A Corsair H60 water cooler keeps the CPU at 37C on normal use and around 49C when gaming. Although I see spikes to 57c occasionally. The G.Skill TridentZ 16GB runs at 3600 MHZ when set with auto XMP. The real difference though comes from the Samsung 960 EVO M.2 250GB SSD. Boot times are phenomenal. The system boots Windows 10 in 3 seconds. I literally turn on the PC then turn on two monitors and the Windows login screen is already showing. The performance is really impressive. Coming from an AMD Phenom 1100T X6 @3.8GHz it is a huge boost. Playing Supreme Commander Forged Alliances, the X6 would grind to a halt with 2,000 units. With the i7, I can have 4,000 units without any noticeable slow down. Although my GTX 970 is a little dated, the performance is ample. Also, the system is almost silent. I couldn't recommend this configuration enough: MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon Intel Core i7-7700K @ 4.5GHz G.Skill TridentZ Series 16GB DDR4 3600 Samsung 960 EVO M.2 250MB PCI-Express Corsair Hydro Series H60 MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming 4G
What a disappointment
Pros: Good price for the capacity and the size of the cache. The promise of SSHD.
Cons: Was not recognized by Windows 10 or Windows 7 so could not format for use
Overall Review: I spent a day trying all sorts of ways for Windows 10 & 7 to recognize the drive both as an internal and as a USB connected one. Although it spun up, and the motherboard BIOS recognized it, neither Windows Disk Management nor Acronis could see it. Therefore, returned for a refund. As always, Newegg makes it so easy. 5 stars to Newegg, 1 star for the drive.
Good service
Antonline was highly communicative. The SD card arrived as expected. No surprises. Would by from Antonline again.
