Decent Li'l Board

MSI A55M-P33 FM1 AMD A55 (Hudson D2) Micro ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
MSI A55M-P33 FM1 AMD A55 (Hudson D2) Micro ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Pros: Solid caps; decent overclocking options; nice bios

Cons: Really none at this price point. MSI's website definitely needs improvement; HDMI would be nice.

Overall Review: I got this as a combo deal with an A6-3650 cpu, works perfectly......booted on first try using 8 gig Kingston HyperX ram (#N82E16820104339). I wanted to get 'on board' for more of the FM1 stuff before it's gone, some of it is bargain priced right now. Definitely a no frills mobo, but I am only using it for casual concert video viewing and audio listening, using a Gigabyte HD 6450 card I already had using Dual Graphics with the APU for video, and a Behringer UCA202 for superb (stereo) sound quality. Installed both Win 7 Ultimate x86 and x64, no issues with either OS. Uncompressed Blu-Ray rips are very smooth. My only gripe, you need to use the included DVD for all drivers, then update from there. I couldn't find the AMD SM Bus drivers / USB filter drivers on the MSI website (or elsewhere), available driver downloads there are haphazard at best. It seems like this is an epic fail among many manufacturers these days. Some users may prefer a manual in hard copy form (not included), but it is an easy download from MSI. For some reason I couldn't copy the files from the driver DVD to other sources (hard drive, usb stick) for installation.....but I didn't spend much time trying, just thought it was odd, gave some "administrator" error message. If this board stands the test of time it will likely end up in a server case a year or two down the road.......

Poor QC, Never Again

Rosewill RTCG-TN115C High Yield Cyan Toner Replaces Brother TN-115C TN115C TN-110C TN110C

Pros: None.

Cons: Arrived with toner leaked out in plastic package. RMA sent, second one did as well. Had to use because of a business time crunch.

Overall Review: I use many Rosewill computer products in my home with absolutely no issues. Ordered 3 Rosewill toner cartridges for our color office printer. 2 out of 3 had toner leaked out into the package when received from UPS. Sent back the two leakers and both replacements were the same way.

Works Well, Disappointing Audio Outs

MSI PRO B450M PRO-M2 MAX AM4 AMD B450 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
MSI PRO B450M PRO-M2 MAX AM4 AMD B450 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Worked great on first boot with Ryzen 2600. No build issues.

Cons: This board does NOT have 5.1 analog audio outs, only line in, line out, and mic in. I tried the audio driver from MSI website and the Realtek control add-on through Microsoft Store (never experienced that before). The analog outs are crucial for my htpc setup, so I'll have to send it back. Nowhere in the board documentation does it address this, and there is a close-up on the website of the audio outs touting 7.1 surround sound (must be through hdmi only).

Overall Review: Disappointing, but a lesson learned. I thought all mobos with Realtek had at least 5.1 output.

Good Card, Limited OS Support

PowerColor RED DRAGON Radeon RX 560 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support ATX Video Card AXRX 560 2GBD5-DHV3/OC
PowerColor RED DRAGON Radeon RX 560 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support ATX Video Card AXRX 560 2GBD5-DHV3/OC

Pros: Windows 10x64 picked up the card on install with no issues. Using this for 1080P video only, no gaming. All the usual outputs, no issues using it in Win 10. Low power consumption, no external power needed (powered from slot). Good for HTPC if it fits your machine.

Cons: Dinging it two stars for no Win 8.1 support, only Win7x64 and Win10x64. If I had realized it before purchase I would have passed it by since 8.1 with Classic Shell is my OS of choice. I spent many hours trying to get the drivers to work in 8.1x64, struggled to get the video driver to work but with no HDMI audio. This is the first (newer) Radeon card I've had with such a limited OS support (I can understand not supporting Win7, but Win8.1? Really?). I almost returned it but had already mailed out the rebate and it's more trouble than it's worth.

Overall Review: Recommended if using Win 10x64 ,Win7x64, or a supported linux variant.

SeaSonic SSP-300ST 300W ATX12V CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Haswell Ready Active PFC Power Supply –OEM

Pros: Runs cool and whisper quiet; just plain works

Cons: None

Overall Review: I used this for a simple 24/7 file server using a FBM-05 case, repurposed T5500 Core2 Duo mobo, and 2 spinner drives. Pulls 34 watts from the wall at idle. Couldn't be more pleased. Highly recommended for an efficient non-gaming build.

Simple But Effective

ROSEWILL Dual-Fan Mini Tower Computer Case - FBM-05
ROSEWILL Dual-Fan Mini Tower Computer Case - FBM-05

Pros: Fans are quiet; no sharp edges; USB 2 & 3 Front Ports; Basic Black Styling; Good Airflow and Runs Cool

Cons: None at this price.

Overall Review: I can't say much that hasn't been said by others. This was purchased for a simple linux file server I set up using an old Intel mobo with a T5500 CPU / 4 gig ram. Using a Seasonic 300W PSU with 4tb and 500G spinning drives it is whisper quiet. As mentioned before getting the hard drive(s) in with tall RAM would be problematic, but this case isn't for gamers or frequent re-builders. Fits my needs perfectly, would purchase again if needed.
