Misleading claims of compatibility

GIGABYTE GA-P67X-UD3-B3 LGA 1155 Intel P67 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-P67X-UD3-B3 LGA 1155 Intel P67 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Don't know.

Cons: The info Gigabyte provides for this and other mobos indicates it is compatible with 3rd gen Intel processors (Ivy Bridge) after a BIOS update. What is not made clear--and what I didn't anticipate--is that you can't update the BIOS without first installing a chip it will recognize with its factory settings. So if you're building a system from scratch and don't have a 2nd gen (Sandy Bridge) processor lying about, you won't be able to get a 3rd gen CPU to work unless you send it to Gigabyte or hire a tech to use some special equipment to update the BIOS. I considered getting a different Gigabyte mobo, but I got frustrated trying to figure out which--if any--would be compatible out of the box. Bought an Intel instead.

Overall Review: Might be a nice mobo, but I never had the chance to find out. I found Gigabyte's documentation misleading and confusing.
