Question 1

I purchased the CyberPower 1350 VA product. It continues to make clicking noises.

I have a desktop computer plugged into the UPS unit, my external harddrive, speakers (I think, though the cable is plugged into my desktop computer) and I think that's it.

I have a Xerox Phaser 6500 DN, but it is not plugged into the CyberPower unit (it is plugged into the wall, and the cable is connected to my laptop (also not connected to the UPS; when it is charging, it is plugged in to another socket on an opposite wall). The only time the clicking stops is when I turn off the Phaser completely. Does this have anything to do with the UPS unit?

Sorry - I misunderstood the question to mean that the Phaser Printer was plugged into the CyberPower unit. Instead, after re-reading your question I realized it's in plugged into a seperate wall outlet.

Depending on age of room and then current building codes, nearly all rooms (residential especially) have all outlets on the same circuit. So the notion of plugging into a different outlet in the same room generally means very little unless you know for a fact that the outlets are on seperate circuits at the power panel.

I suggest you have the outlets checked in the room. It sounds like when you plug in the Phaser, you may be getting a voltage drop which would cause cycling in the CyberPower unit as it pulls the voltage up. You can get a cheap three prong outlet tester with which you can verify the correctness of every wall socket's wiring.

A mis-wired socket can stil provide power but can cause voltage drops. I've seen and tested circuits where any given single outlet tested for 120 volts only to drop to around 86 volts depending on which position certain light switches were in (older house with combined lighting and wall outlets in a single circuit).

The clicking you hear in the CyberPower unit PROBABLY comes from when it is actively controlling it's output voltage and is normal for that activity.

Question 2

I am looking for something to protect my tv,gaming system and expensive laptop new asus I have regular surge protection that is not sufficent in my new apt had a loss of desktop computer not sure which one I need does it need to be the sinewave does one of these have more plugs than others ?

Sine-wave provides the purest/cleanest power signal, and is the best option when trying to protect sensitive electronics, especially if they don't have expensive/sophisticated power supplies to begin with. When I was shopping, getting the sine-wave was not significantly more expensive, so it is very well worth it.

Different models may have varying numbers of outlets, I wasn't too concerned because they all seem to have more than enough. The primary concern should be the power draw of the electronics you are planning to plug in to this UPS. This particular model is capable of outputting up to 810 Watts. This could be barely enough for an extremely high end gaming pc, or just enough for a collection of less hungry devices such as laptops, monitors, maybe even an entire home entertainment system. To be absolutely sure you must check the power supply specs of all of your devices and just add them up. This UPS model has 10 outlets, which is plenty for most cases.

Another consideration is how it will behave during power outages. This one at full load gives 3 minutes of power, full load meaning all 810 Watts of output. So, if you only have one or two low power devices (100-300W total) you'll get power much longer, in the range of 7-15 min. The goal of course is to be able to gracefully turn off your devices, save work on the computer and shut down, etc...

I feel like the CPxxxxPFCLCD is one of the best model lines for home UPS devices, just pick the one that has enough power for the devices you want to power/protect.

Question 3

Can one shut off the beeping when the power goes out? I had a UPS that can powers my cordless phone for hours, and after a few minutes the beeps are very annoying.

There are multiple ways you can deal with the alarm. You can press the "Silence Alarm" button on the front of the unit to make it stop for the rest of a power outage but still have it beep at the beginning of every outage or you can press and hold the "Silence Alarm" button until it does a quick double beep to permanently silence the alarm so it never goes off at all. You can also turn it off using the PowerPanel software under Configure > Notification > UPS Alarms.

This also tuns on a icon on the display of a bell with a slash through it that says Mute so you know you turned it on. To unmute just press and hold the "Silence Alarm" button again until you get a beep.

Question 4

Do you have to replace the battery in these eventually?

Typically,  batteries need replaced eventually in all devices like these. I have had two for 2 years with no issues.I would expect the batteries to last at least 5 years before they start to show signs of wear. In any case, they are not difficult to replace or upgrade, plenty of videos how to do that as well.

They have constantly saved me from losing important data and in process work, as well as wrapping up the last couple minutes of a game haha. This particular unit keeps my router and modem running for about 110 minutes so I can use wireless devices with internet while I wait for the power to come on.

Question 5

I compared this to the CP1500PFCLCD model, and it seems like the 810w versus 900w is the only difference.  Is that correct?  I ask because one uses the term "adaptive sine wave" yet I think they are both pure sine wave.  Do the 2 models use the same technology? Thanks.

The battery size difference (which affects runtime for a given wattage of power draw) between the 850/1000/1350/1500 is 1x8.5Ah/1x9.0Ah/2x7.0Ah/2x8.5Ah batteries (all are 12V).  So, the stored power difference between the 1350 and 1500 is 2x8.5 divided by 2x7.0 = 21% more power.

Question 6

I'm looking to upgrade from my EC650LCD to the CP1350PFCLCD. I'm currently using the Power Panel Business software for automated shutdown management. This may not seem that important, but I will be rebuilding my entire station. I'll take any shortcuts to speed thing up. 
My question is, will I have to reinstall the software for the upgraded model, or will the it recognize the new device?

I responded to this yesterday indicating that the batteries on this backup were getting weak. I called the company today and it turns out that with the load that I have on this battery backup, 7-8 minutes is about right. So, I can happily say, after 1.5 yrs, the batteries are still going strong.
