Does this UPS have a built in surge protector?

yep, no matter the input (over voltage, under voltage, no power) this ups will give proper power to anything plugged in.

Regarding the recent reviews about poor packaging...I know someone asked the same question in December, and the customers that responded purchased the product in 2014 and didn't have any issues.  Is there anyone who has purchased this more recently who can verify the condition and packaging it arrived in?  Or is there someone from Newegg who can address my concern?  If the packaging in 2014 was good I don't fully understand why it might have changed for the worse.

Question 3

I want to purchase the cp1500avrlcd. Overkill or not. Does this device or similar devices ever have to be connected to a computer? My plan is to use it with a cell phone signal amplifier only. Suggestions? Thank

I have two of these units. The first I have as a back-up for my computer and Amateur radio equipment. As I have had not a minute of problems with this unit, would rate it 5 stars and as the price was right I bought a second for my church to back up a computer, router and security system.
You did not say what the load of your amplifier is that you want to connect but in my opinion it is hard to have to much back-up ampacity in the battery. If you push the load limit of a UPS with connected gear you can get away with it yes, but you might have an hour or less of back up time, whereas if your phone connection is important to you, you might want to go big on the UPS for max back up time.
This does not have to be computer connected as it has a nice display of all functions, however computer connection is nice as you can easily check or set up many things with the included app.

Question 4

I purchased CyberPower Intelligent LCD Series CP1500AVRLCD.

When i turn it on, the Multifunction LCD Display will show for about 1 minute then go dark. (LCD Display turns off)

Is this normal or is the LCD Display always suppose to be illuminated when unit is powered on ???

My PowerPanel software tells me the UPS is working normally.

This is normal the only light that stays on is the blue power light. If you want to see the display just touch the long silver button and every time you press it it shows a different function. I have four of these running and the only problem I have ever had is on one, the blue power light doesn't come on anymore but the unit functions perfectly I hope this helps.

Can I lay the UPS on its side, or does it have to stand upright?

I've had mine on it's side for several years. For about $10 I bought a metal platform (the kind intended for dishes), so it elevates it 6" and allows for ventilation. Have never had any issues.

Question 6

Can I put this UPS in a closed off space or does it generate a lot of heat?

Does it make any sound while there is power coming from the wall?

It will be powering my Corsair AX760 PSU, will it affect the lifespan of my PSU at all?

It does not generate a *lot* of heat. But like any electronics it needs some reasonable air exchange to prevent overheating over time. A lot depends on what the ambient temperature is in the space you intend to place it. A closet in an air conditioned house would be fine.

The UPS is almost completely silent.  It's really just 2 sealed lead-acid batteries with some electronics to monitor load/output.  Not much to hurt.

Does this come with a battery?

yes, it is a battery backup, or an Uninterruptible Power Supply. It has a user replaceable battery in it.

BTW, I highly recommend this thing. I have two, purchased 4 for clients, and even got one for my lead tech who works from home (with crummy electricity). They last, and have a good interface with Linux (using NUT) and Windows (and probably Mac)

Can I use a 1000w Power supply with this? or only up to 900w?

Your computer power supply rating is a maximum rating, and should be selected based on the maximum requirements of the devices. Your computer probably doesn't draw nearly that much during normal use, but the only way to know for sure is to use a meter - you can use a Kill-a-Watt meter, or plug it into a unit like this. It can tell you both how much power you're drawing and the expected runtime.

It is very unlikely that your computer can't run on this. 1500VA (the rating of this unit) is 15A at 100V - if your computer pulls more than that, it is about to trip your home circuit breaker anyway.

Realistically, what would the charge time be for one of these powering a PC (760w PSU), 2 monitors and modem/router while gaming and/or live streaming?

You've got a very similar setup to mine and while I haven't unplugged it to test the actual duration but the software reports roughly 17-18 minutes of power without pushing the video card (roughly 260w).  If your gaming your video card will draw more power from your PSU.  I currently have a ATI Radeon 290x and the maximum amount of wattage it pulls from the PSU (including everything else) is about 400W and that drops the time down to the 14-15 minute range (again software reported).

I'm running a full blown new H.P. a monitor, speakers and some stuff I won't mention and the UPS lasted for about 30 minutes when I powered it back up and everything ran fine. I still had time but I didn't want to push it. I also want to mention this is my fourth Cyber Power UPS. I'm running three other H.P. machines in my rec. room. I would recommend it highly.
