Does this automatically switch over to battery or does it require manual intervention?

Yes, this automatically switches over to battery.

In fact, when plugged in via USB, it's recognized as a "USB-HID" Battery device. So it functions pretty much just like a laptop battery would in Windows.

Is this product compatible with my power supply?  I have a Corsair RM 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply.

I don't use anywhere close to 850W; I just wanted the ability to upgrade.

Does the unit regenerate the Sine Wave while plugged into utility power or only when operating off the battery?

I need one that will regenerate the 60Hz Sine Wave while operating off an emergency (dirty) generator.

What you're asking is whether the unit runs off of batteries all the time (i.e., converts AC to DC, then DC to AC). It does not, however it includes Automatic Voltage Regulation. Here's the part from the Manufacturers' website:  "The CP1350PFCLCD/CP1500PFCLCD stabilizes inconsistent utility power voltage to nominal levels that are safe for equipment. Inconsistent 
incoming utility power may be damaging to important data files and hardware, but with Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR), damaging voltage levels are corrected to safe levels.    AVR automatically increases low utility power and decreases high utility power to a consistent and safe 110/120 volts. If incoming utility voltage drops below 90 volts, or exceeds 140 volts the units automatically switch to battery back-up power.

So short of buying a very expensive "double conversion" UPS this will provide better protection than the "dirty" power generated by the generator.

The flow is INPUT -> EMI/RF Filter -> Surge Suppressor -> AVR -> OUPUT
The flow is INPUT -> EMI/RF Filter -> Surge Suppressor -> AC/DC Charger -> Battery -> Inverter (DC to AC Sinewave) -> OUTPUT.

As long as the generator (or utility company) is supplying POWER the AVR is in the circuit, but once the generator (or utility company) is not supplying POWER the flow is through the Battery.

If you want to prolong the life of your UPS, I suggest inserting a SERIES MODE surge suppressor (which does not rely on sacrificial MOV devices to divert the surge) between the generator (utility company) and the UPS. Look at models made by ZeroSurge (the inventor of the patents for SERIES MODE surge filters), Brickwall or SurgeX. ZeroSurge are the least expensive (in your case a model 2R15 should work) and SurgeX is sold here on Newegg. The last thing you want is for the "Surge Suppression capability in the UPS" to take out the UPS. With a SERIES MODE power filter the UPS will never see a surge.

How can I tell if this is compatible with my power supply? I'm concerned about the AFC  (sine wave) feature, and whether that feature is not compatible with certain power supplies.

This UPS outputs a pure Sine-wave and is 100% compatible with computer power supplies that have active PFC and those without.

Older power supplies could run on a simulated Sine-Wave which is a stepped square wave, however many modern computers with ACTIVE PFC require pure Sine-Wave's to operate (which is what comes out of the wall outlet that your electrical company is supplying).

This UPS will generate a Pure Sine-Wave when it is running off of the internal batteries and is therefor compatible with both active PFC power supplies and older (non active PFC) power supplies.

can you use this with the PS4 and XBOX ONE and TV?  the logic behind it is if i lose power for like 1 minute or less i will have enough time to save and shutdown the console? thanks

I don't see why not and it will last way longer than a minute.  Obviously how long you can go will depend on the load, but with a couple hundred watts I think it will last about 30 minutes.  I am often not home when there have been power failures and I have seldom had anything like a computer that was left on run the battery down.

Question 6

Can I plug this into a surge protector? My surge protector doubles as a hub for all of my electronics. Without it I won't have room to plug everything in.

Plug this directly into the wall, then plug your surge protectors into it.  There are non-UPS outlets to use for items that you don't need battery backup.  Use this as your power hub, as it performs some power conditioning functions.

Will this unit work if hooked up to a standard generator (not sine wave generator)??

Yes, this is a "line-interactive UPS" which means it uses the AC input (passes it in this case) and only runs on battery in the absence of the AC input. When it runs on battery it will generate a pure sine-wave. The rest of the time it will pass whatever it's given as an input. Given that it has an AVR (Automatic Voltage Generator) it will fix sags (low AC input) and over voltages (high AC input).

Will it handle 1000W PSU computer? Anyone have any experience using it with higher PSU comps?

Yes. I have a 1500W PSU, 2 GTX 680 and a Core i7 3820. Then I have a bunch of hard drives. On idle usage or low usage, the readout on the UPS shows between 230-300 Watts. When I play video games, I've never seen it go over 500 Watts, barely even up to 400. My PSU is Silver Plus certified though, so it's more efficient. I also have 1 LED monitor connected to it through battery.

i see all kinds of negative reviews on the UPS from over 2 years ago to present-and too many to ignore,not just on this model but most CyberPower units all seem to have the same issues.So my question is this like the lottery??? You hope to get a good 1??Also how well do they stand behind connected components warranty??as i will not hook it up to well over 3k in computer gear if it is going to damage it and not be covered

My first CyberPower UPS was the 825AVR to back up my server at the office. It was not enough power for the application and it only lasted about 8mins under full server load. When I researched a larger, more appropriate UPS for my application. This model seemed to fit and the true Sine wave was a must have for my power requirements.
My 1500 has been great. It has had a number of events, and keeps up just fine for over 20mins under full load. 
Keeping it within it's requirements and not pushed in a dusty corner to die help a lot. I also use the supplied software to monitor events and let it shut down my server properly before the battery dies. But this has only been under few tests as my power has been restored in real events before the battery died.
Lastly, I have had much less HDD deaths since moving to this model. I assume because the power input is much, much cleaner.
I recommend it if your going to keep it in a maintained, clean environment. No computer equipment last long under a dusty, hot, desk that is never cleaned.

Question 10

Will this UPS automatically turn back on when line power is restored after an EXTENDED power outage?  For example, power goes out, UPS runs on battery until battery is too low to continue running, UPS shuts down.  What happens when utility power is restored?

If the power is lost completely the UPS will be off when utility power is restored. You can always setup your machines to automatically shut down on power loss, however, and thus the battery will stay on for a very very long time.
