Will a 900 joules surge protector work for a lamp plugged into a dimmer for a lamp?

The "900 Joule" rating on this surge protector lets you know much energy it can safely dissipate during an electrical surge. Any surge 900 joules or lower will be suppressed by this protector. Any surge over 900 joules will also be safely suppressed, keeping anything plugged into it safe, but the protector itself will technically die as a result. The higher the joule rating the bigger the surge the protector can handle without sacrificing itself. So, this surge protector will indeed "work" for anything you plug into it -- unless the lamp and lamp dimmer you have require something very specific.

I want to replace a woods surge protector for my home security system. It reads 500volts.  125volt  15amps   60Hz  1875 watts. 
Will this surge protector be ok?

No, absolutely not. 900 Joules/second = 900 Watts. This surge apater is NOT recommended for 1875 Watts by any means.
