Probably not worth the money 8/7/2014 8:34:31 PM

Pros: Lots of features: dual band, IPV6, gigabit wired.

- Easy setup
- Supposedly can be flashed with DD-WRT but I was unable to do so.
- Most of the time it works pretty good.

Cons: I've had this router for several years now. It's an older revision B1 model. As the number of wireless devices that needed to use this router increased I started noticing more and more problems. I'd have devices lose connections spontaneously, my Squeezebox started buffering Pandora, I even had instances where a wired machine would sporadically be unable to ping the router (and Internet) but would still be able to ping internal hosts. (fixed with a router reboot). Perhaps some problems were caused by physical failures, but some certainly were present from the start. All connectivity issues were resolved when I replaced it with an ASUS RT-AC66W. ...and the ASUS was cheaper. It can not compare to the quality of the ASUS web interface software.

Overall Review: I tried flashing this router with replacement firmware (dd-wrt & open-wrt) but it simply refused to accept the new firmware. Others have had success with this B1 model, but I did not.

Once very good 6/27/2014 5:11:18 PM

Pros: I had this over 4 years, it even ran dd-wrt fine.

Cons: After 4 years the 5GHz radio died.

Overall Review: 4 years ago this was a real nice dual-band gigabit AP. Time has moved on, many better a/b/g/n ones now for a lot less money.

Not recomended 12/7/2013 3:12:56 PM

Pros: Easy setup, Works really good at 2.4Ghz

Cons: It has NEVER worked at all on 5Ghz. I have tried EVERYTHING d-ling support suggested but nothing worked.
I'm NOT happy because I really need the 5Ghz speed.

Stay away 11/12/2013 8:42:45 PM

Pros: Well when it works its ok but really for 169 dollars its really bad went from a dlink 655 to this and now im done with dlink.

Cons: everything, signal is awful and it needs to be reset every hour or else the bandwidth falls off the end of the world. Then to make matters worse ive done everything to make it better added dd wrt to it port forwarding, dns google, and got all my devices there own static ip. still drops the bandwidth after an hour. start downloading steam games and it works for two minutes then drops my 20 mbps connection which should giver me 1Mb download to 150kbps. dlink stop useing cheap parts in your routers. im done maybe ill come back when you pull your heads out of your a**.

Awesome router 11/5/2013 6:34:39 PM

Pros: It's been working for a year now, never needs rebooted. Rock solid

Cons: It was a great router when it was on half price special. Not the best bang for buck at 170

Overall Review: I only use this to distribute internet, not local file sharing so I haven't tested the speed limit, nor have I experimented with the dual band technology.

Mediocre at best 11/4/2013 6:49:37 PM

Pros: 2.4 ghz band is usually reliable

Cons: 5ghz band is awful. General range mediocre.

Overall Review: I live in a 3-story house. My router is on the ground floor but centrally located. Even on the second floor 5ghz reception is terrible; I've long since abandoned 5ghz. 2.4 ghz band usually works fine but why did I pay for a dual-band??

Fantastic router 10/30/2013 12:25:39 PM

Pros: Excellent router once flashed with OpenWRT. I have 3 of these in a WDS setup, giving me a full wifi signal everywhere in my house, as well as my garage and backyard.

Cons: Factory firmware is not good. This may be the reason for so many negative reviews. Factory firmware is flaky, my primary router needed a reboot every so often. OpenWRT and DD-WRT will alleviate any bad taste the factory firmware left behind.

Overall Review: This router is hardware limited to a 19dBm signal, while some others using the exact same Atheros chipset are capable of signals near the 30dBm range. Do not waste your money on larger antennas, since they will not offer any benefit with the hardware limiting the signal strength. Revisions B1, B2, and C1 are ripe for OpenWRT and DD-WRT. Revision A1 is not supported.

Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. 8/1/2013 4:36:10 PM

Pros: I honestly can't think of one.

Cons: Customer Service is an atrocity against man.
Reliability is shorter than ownership of product.

Overall Review: This isn't my first tragic rodeo with D-Link devices. This is now the third router I've had to replace for someone. I don't even want to imagine they spent $100+ on this junk.

Worked for all of a week before I receive a call stating that it wouldn't work anymore. After arriving at the location to inspect the device, the familiar scent of burning electronics was in the air.

A week.

That is shorter than the two months the previous router I serviced from D-Link lasted.

And you know what, I could accept manufacturing defects in a product--it happens--but completely ignoring your customer's requests for assistance?

I submitted a ticket to D-Link, and only receive a half-a---d reply on it. When I requested further support from that reply--they never bothered. I submitted an additional ticket when no one assisted me, just to have them completely ignore that one.

Just stay away from 'em. I would have to say pretty much any other company is probably going to be better than D-Link. Save yourself from a headache now, get your wireless from someone else.
