Was Not Quite Enough Power

SeaSonic SS-300ET Bronze 300 W ATX12V V2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply
SeaSonic SS-300ET Bronze 300 W ATX12V V2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: SeaSonic are still the best. Have always used them and they are always silent running, steady and reliable. Able to withstand power outages and surges without a surge protector. And are as energy efficient as any psu on the market. (tried fsp and these are more efficient)

Cons: None

Overall Review: My old 380 watt SeaSonic used to power just about any system I put it in and it is going on 7 years old. It is still powering a system now. Tried this little 300 watt...it was not quite enough for the following htpc system: 890GX chipset, 95 watt quad core, 8 gigs ram, 2T WD "green" drive, 80G SSD, 5450 graphics card, HT omega striker sound card. System would have random shutdowns. Changed to an older 550watt Mushkin modular supply and system runs perfect. The 300watt is now in this system: 780G chipset, 65 watt dual core, 2G ram, 160G SATA drive (onboard graphics and sound). Runs perfect and idles under 40 watts.

Not Bad a few pains for the price

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit for System Builders
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit for System Builders

Pros: Installed on a newly built - 2.5Ghz dual core 4G ram. Used the Home Premium version for HTPC. For almost all functions, system is extremely fast and stable; runs 32 bit apps as well as 64. I have the machine set up as an HTPC controlling all media and surround sound in living room on big screen. The Media center is awesome...wishing further efforts on their part to facilitate reception of digital cable.

Cons: Where to begin - Price - overpriced. Sure, it is a nice piece of software but with the volume of sales the price affords the company an unreal profit. My biggest complaint is the anti-piracy measures. My new install would not authenticate, I spent a large amount of time trying to contact microsoft. They offer zero customer support for this OEM product. It is my belief that their efforts against piracy should not affect a paying customer. Sorry, but I would feel much better towards Microsoft if they at least offered acceptable customer service. Very, very poor to non existant customer service...should invest .000001% of their earnings into customers servce...thanks

Overall Review: Once it was installed and I put in an enormous amount of my own time to get it authenticated, it has worked fine but I just can't understand their lack of concern for the customer...I am 100% positive they could care less though...I mean, what can we do about it? You seriously cannot even contact them if you have problems with this product. Their help files are nearly useless in most situations. Have credit card ready if you wish to speak to a less than helpful representative. It's like having to pay *** a gallon for gas - because wow, it's the only realistic way to make your car run.

Update Review

AMD Athlon II X4 640 - Athlon II X4 Propus Quad-Core 3.0 GHz Socket AM3 95W Desktop Processor - ADX640WFGMBOX
AMD Athlon II X4 640 - Athlon II X4 Propus Quad-Core 3.0 GHz Socket AM3 95W Desktop Processor - ADX640WFGMBOX

Pros: Chip has been running 24/7 for about 5 months now. Love it. Rarely does it jump over 25% usage, except for when doing video converting, or rendering edited video. It is in a well ventilated, silent running case...with fans set to very slow speeds. Idles at around 19-22 degrees celcius and is clocked at 3.3 Ghz. When set to stock 3.0 Ghz, it idled around 14-17 degrees. Have had it set at 3.3 the whole time it's been in use, gets as hot as 35 degrees under full load on a hot day....with the stock cooler on it. With an SSD drive this machine is about as fast as it gets for everyday computing. It is a pure joy to use.

Cons: Wattage. Was originally going to get a low wattage quad core, but they do not seem to be available from newegg anymore. Wound up getting this cpu. Initially tried setting it up as planned with a trusty seasonic 300watt supply. With a htomega striker sound card, a 4350 graphics card, 8gigs of ram, the 300w supply was not enough and it had intermittent shutdowns. Put in an old chrome 550 mushkin supply (loved the look of those mushkins with the green lighted fan) Everything has been fine since.

Overall Review: I have no idea why anyone buys intel chips. For the money, you get a lot more with AMD. This chip is ultra stable and super fast.

Not Sure

Foxconn A9DA AM3 AMD 890GX + SB850 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
Foxconn A9DA AM3 AMD 890GX + SB850 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Nice Board, Fast Chipset. Foxconn utilities allow for changing the bios splash screen to your own jpeg image. This is the primary reason I have been using Foxconn boards.

Cons: Having random reboots. Sometimes quite often. Cannot seem to figure it out. Also the SATA ports are awkwardly placed. the BIOS is not all that great....MUCH prefer biostar for control.

Overall Review: Be sure to get 1.6 volt or greater memory for the board. Bios does not have options for setting the voltage any lower than 1.6 volt...am thinking the random shutdowns on recent build might be due to 1.5 volt memory installed and running on 1.6, although increasing the memory voltage usually tends to stabilize the memory. It is all I can think of, as all temperatures are low to very low on the components.

Perfect

AMD Athlon II X4 640 - Athlon II X4 Propus Quad-Core 3.0 GHz Socket AM3 95W Desktop Processor - ADX640WFGMBOX

Pros: Runs very cool...have it in a silent computer and idles at 16 Celcius, under load gets up to about 30. Is blazing fast.

Cons: AMD stock heatsink and fan is not as nice as what they used to supply with their processors.

Overall Review: Am using a 25 dollar artic cooling silent cooler on it, not the stock cooler.

It's OK

HT OMEGA STRIKER 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card
HT OMEGA STRIKER 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card

Pros: Great Sound quality for music/movies, don't play games on the computer....it is in an HTPC.

Cons: Loud popping noise when windows 7 starts. Seems like the software is lacking a bit.

Overall Review: Went from an old SB audigy to this, this one does make music sound better on a 5.1 surround system and is more stable, seems to handle any sound source and put it into 5.1 very well.
