Excellent external RAID solution
Pros: I did some research before buying this product, not extensive but quite a bit. This company specializes in storage solutions for data centers etc. so it must know how to make a quality product and it does. The RAID encolsure is well constructed and supports USB, eSATA and regular SATA via an adapter. The instructions are not very comprehensive but I looked online for more details. If you want RAID 1 (mirroring) its as simple as setting the mode in the back, popping in two drives and letting it do the rest. The Steelvine application tells you what is going on in the enclosure. I haven't used any other modes but there is a GUI mode which lets you set things up using the GUI I believe instead of the selector in the back. Transfer rates for RAID 1 are good. I read online that its not the fastest for RAID 0 compared to more expensive controllers.
Cons: The selector on the back is terrible. There is no way to know for sure what mode you have selected. Luckily the Steelvine GUI tells you the mode it is in when plugged it. This is a minor complaint for an otherwise excellently designed product. It has a fan that is supposed to be temperature controlled but I can always hear it running and its pretty loud compared to my Dell XPS 420 since its a small fan. Not sure if its a firmware issue or if its just designed to be always on at the same speed but this is something I thought I should mention.
Issues with hub resetting
Pros: Works fine except the issue I have described in the cons section.
Cons: I connect this to my monitor which is a USB hub itself and when I plug in some devies like my iphone it causes the hub to reset and then even my mouse stops working. Definitely some issues with this hub I think but not 100% sure I can blame the hub or the fact that I'm connecting a hub to a hub.
Pros: Just Amazing! Graphics, gameplay and voice acting. Did I mention the voice acting? I really felt for the characters and cared about the story. 10 minutes didn't go be when I would just stop moving and just stare at the scenery with my jaw on the floor. The platforming is a lot of fun. Well done Naughty Dog!!! Multiplayer is fun.
Cons: Gunplay is good, but nothing exceptional.
Overall Review: Its linear to the bone but thats by design.
Poor comfort and constant hiss from the amp
Pros: Excellent sound quality when you ignore the background hiss. Well constructed. Surround works but its no where near what a surround speaker system can produce.
Cons: Terrible ear pads and uncomfortable design. My ears were hurting after a half hour. Literally hurting as the padding is hard and thin such that your ear will actually be pressed against the inner foam all the time which causes them to become sore. Might not be an issue for tiny ears. There is a constant background hiss from the amp which cannot be heard when sounds are playing, but when there is silence or very little sound in a game or movie you can hear the hiss. I tried plugging the usb cable into various sources (PC/xbox/ac usb charger etc.) and relized that the noise level varies, so the amp is picking up electrical noise from the power source (USB power) and amplifying it. Terrible packagaging...who blister packs an expensive headphone?
Overall Review: Try before you buy. Make sure you can return it. Mine is giong back. I spent the same money in upgrading to a new sound card (x-fi) which has virtualized 3d which works pretty well. I have a very comfortable and hi-fi sterio headphone that I plan to stick with so this was the best option. After the torture of the HPA2's I love my headphones even more. Headphones are Audio-technica ATH-A700....the most comfortable i've ever worn.
Pure gameplay fun
Pros: Addictive fun. Good special effects and gameplay. Graphics are good but you can see it has some low res textures which is fine.
Cons: Story is very average and does not do a good job of motivating you to play further. Good thing the excellent gameplay makes up for this which make you want to keep upgrading your awesome powers!
Pros: 3 months later and no problems so far. It doesn't over heat. For a review of a graphics card brand what else can say. It delivers. The GTX260 itself is a great deal with rebates and all. I got mine for $120 after rebates. Its fast and plays all games at 1280x1050 with good frame rates and very high settings.
