Overall Review: Plugged into wall. Hit the WPS button on the 647GA and my Wifi router. Lights blinked. Unplugged and connected to my XBOX360 two floors up. Plugged back in and connected ethernet. Showing >100Mbs when previous G adapter got 1-2mbps. Linked up in 15 seconds. Media Center Extender is now streaming Hi-Def. For $45. Do it.

Acer Laptop Aspire Intel Pentium T3200 2GB Memory 160GB HDD Intel GMA 4500M 14.1" Windows Vista Home Premium AS4730-4857
Acer Laptop Aspire Intel Pentium T3200 2GB Memory 160GB HDD Intel GMA 4500M 14.1" Windows Vista Home Premium AS4730-4857

Pros: I'm somewhat astonished what you get for under 4 bills - two cores at 2Ghz, 2Gb, Vista Premium, Wifi, Vista Premium. Screen quality exceeded expectations as did general fit, finish, and (dare I say) style. This machine's molded shell with rounded edges and gloss finish makes Dell's line look like something from the '90's. After removing the bloatware this well engineered laptop moves along quickly.

Cons: To get the price point down they subsidized it with a ton of trialware / bloatware. It took me 30 minutes to remove it. I'd pay $20 more for a clean Vista install without all the crudware. Acer's utilities and screeensavers need to go too! Just use the control panel and presto! you have a little gem here.

Overall Review: Newegg is awesome.

MSI Wind U100-016US Black Intel Atom N270(1.60 GHz) 10.0" WSVGA 1GB Memory 120GB HDD NetBook
MSI Wind U100-016US Black Intel Atom N270(1.60 GHz) 10.0" WSVGA 1GB Memory 120GB HDD NetBook

Pros: We purchased the MSI Wind and immediately did a fresh install (without modification of the Wind) of Vista Premium using an external DVD Drive. The Vista install enabled the ethernet port and then Windows Update properly installed all other drivers and patches. We are running the glass interface of Vista Premium on the 1GB ram. The battery life (as reported broadly) also is improved under Vista. The Atom itself and the video chipset drivers are rock solid and smooth operating. All drivers (sound, camera) work. Which makes this machine a great video call (messenger) or VOIP device. As it's so small you can really tote it around. Start up from Sleep in Vista is sub second - open the clam shell and it's running and connected. Which is really handy. I am impressed by the build quality. The fit is cell phone like - well engineered with no rattles or loose ends.

Cons: The hardware itself is showing some wear/shine from moderate daily use. Shine points are showing up on the track pad and palm rest points.

Vista! Vista! Vista!

MSI Wind U100-053US Black Intel Atom N270(1.60 GHz) 10.0" WSVGA 1GB Memory 80GB HDD NetBook
MSI Wind U100-053US Black Intel Atom N270(1.60 GHz) 10.0" WSVGA 1GB Memory 80GB HDD NetBook

Pros: I'm writing this review on the U100-053US with a fresh install of VISTA. Pros - the Intel Chipset simply paired with the ATOM simply screams. The VISTA drivers downloaded from Intel are rock-solid and insanely performant. Insanely. I'm streaming the Olympics without issue, video - no issue, window transparency - no issue. All drivers AUTO-update and work flawlessly. I am astonished. Screeen is clear and sharp. Wifi range is great. Battery life got better with VISTA over XP. Need to run some frame rates but I suspect that's better too as reported elsewhere on the web. Running the stock 1GB RAM too - no need to add more. Running super smooth here. Hardware and packaging are top quality - even sent a protective (white) sleeve in the box. Glad I went there.

Cons: Uhhhh... they're out of stock everywhere and I want another one. Also - can't figure out the hotkey TURBO mode (overclock to 1.9Ghz) on VISTA. But TURBO is not needed.

Overall Review: Get ready for a complete shift in mobile computing. If you're reading this maybe you see it. The $500 price point + ATOM and what you get in these small packages is fortelling of times about to change.

Updated - Vista

CNet CWD-854 Wireless-G USB Dongle IEEE 802.11b/g USB 2.0 Up to 54Mbps Wireless Data Rates
CNet CWD-854 Wireless-G USB Dongle IEEE 802.11b/g USB 2.0 Up to 54Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: 1) 2 Axis USB connector is really functional in tuning and positioning, 2) Uses RALink Technology chipset which updates drivers via Windows Update [no driver or install hassles with Vista!!!!], 3) Price, price, price, 4) I get a full connection thru walls, floors where others have failed.

Cons: 1) Use Vista's connection manager instead of the RALink software that's included.

Overall Review: CNet Technology has a bunch of cheap and innovative products. I really wish Newegg would offer their IP cameras and CNET's new WAP's with wifi addressable thumbdrive storage.

Works with Vista

CNet CWD-854 Wireless-G USB Dongle IEEE 802.11b/g USB 2.0 Up to 54Mbps Wireless Data Rates
CNet CWD-854 Wireless-G USB Dongle IEEE 802.11b/g USB 2.0 Up to 54Mbps Wireless Data Rates

Pros: Installed on Vista perfectly on a USB 2.0 port. Nice inclusion of a two-axis pivoting USB extender - can be pretty much oriented in any position with this 3 inch extra. Great addition to Vista.

Cons: In the Vista tray the utility icon reads the signal strenth in terms of the color of an "R". Took me a bit to figure that out.

Overall Review: CNet Tech is now (2006) owned by Pegasus Wireless (PGSW) which makes a complementary wireless line and media extenders. Will be interesting to see what they cook up.
