Asus is Asus
Pros: Finally 20 lanes so that you can run a video card and at least 1 m.2 at Pcie 4.0 IF and that's an IF you have an 11th gen CPU.Latest bios update 0605 breathes some life into the board and raises performance which can be noticed with an almost amazing 10 second boot gain.M.2 install is simple and comes with heat spread. However PCH temps run a bit high 50s to 60s C.
Cons: Industry-leading Gaming Audio: ALC4080 with Savitech SV3H712 amplifier, along with DTS® Sound Unbound and Sonic Studio IIIThat's about all the information that you can get about the new Realtek sound chip which BTW is USB audio.First of all the first and only driver out has a problem. It slows boot sequence by almost 10 seconds. You can hear the sub popping on boot. I even have a trace file that shows the problem.Realtek has absolutely no information about the chip. It's marred in secrecy.People are having all sorts of issues with the driver. Some don't even know that slow boot issues are driver related. This issue is really bugging me because everyone is silent. Now, one word I want to get in. If the Asus guy decides to put his 2 cents in, I have no objections, but let the customer reply. Because one way solutions given by the distributor which are often far fetched without having the user reply is not an objective review in my eyes.
Overall Review: I have been building systems for more than 20 years. I have tried many board makers even did support with the VIA boards. My favorite is and remains Asus. Not because they have the best all round boards (they have some good ones) but it's their efforts on reliability.I have never sent an Asus video card back for issues. Most often, issues are user related. They will replace a board if you can reasonably prove that the board is defective. Laptops had (yes had) one of the best warranties in the business). It's still pretty goodAsus tries to keep quality but once in while they will throw a dud. I hope that the new Realtek chip (4080) isn't one. It usually takes about 6 months for a board to be at it's prime after updates.Right now, Intel 11th gen 11700K is not competitive price wise compared to the 10700k or better yet the 10600k which I am using. Yes, AMD is more competitive in that category. We all know that it's the end of the line for the 14 nano (hope) with sunny cove hot CPU but microcode updates might make it a last survivor :)The Z590 family seems to be on the right track
Going back instead of forward
Pros: Easy set-up. Slots and plugs in the right place. Very detailed bios settings especially for the fans (Q fans). XMP with bios 906 worked nicely. Corsair 3200 16 Gig. M.2 was plug and play. FIRST BOARD WAS DEFECTIVE. Great job by Newegg replacing board rapidly. Very impressed with customer service!!
Cons: 1) I have heard about the issues of peaking temps with the 7700K (which I have). It is true! I can't speak for other board manufacturers but as far as the Asus Prime board goes, the problem lies with unresponsive fan settings with either Qfan or monitoring settings. I installed a supplemental 240 mm fan on top of my fractal R5 and decided to let the board handle the fan setting. To my dismay, fan was always running at 60 % and unfortunately is not a low noise fan so I would hear the fan fluctuate with temp changes from board. There is either something wrong with CPU or bios. I think it's bios because when I was able to set my fan settings differently especially the additional case fan to a lower speed, cpu fluctuations stopped. Besides board CPU temps are always stable at 32c no load stock settings. I had to change the board because of a defective audio output (no sound right channel). New board had higher fan settings and I could not lower them until I uploaded bios settings from other board. Then things were OK. 2) I don't have full control of my case fan in settings! More fan settings, less control (not practical) Case fan settings will run at lower temp of either CPU, PHB and so on. I really like to decide what my fan setting for my case will be. ASUS please fix or tell me if I'm lost. 3) Fast boot settings doesn't hide bios post on boot. Lowest I was able to go is 1 second. So, this ''NEW'' board with an M.2 boots slower than my old Z87A that had an 850 PRO. Asus, BIOS update, PLEASE!!! 3) I had a defective board with broken right sound output. Wasted half a day trouble shooting the issue. NOT HAPPY WITH ASUS
Overall Review: If not for fan frustrations and fastboot that is not as fast as my old board, so far so good. I would have thought of seeing a little more speed from this board with this set-up. That's why I gave three eggs. Not impressed.
Product great reseller takes advantage of Situation
Pros: Easy to install
Cons: None so far
Overall Review: I would highly recommend this product if it were not for some resellers that take advantage of this tough enough PANDEMIC year without having to price gouge Newegg customers. This product was sold at almost double the price from 6 months before. I understand that you need to make money, but do you want to keep your customers? Some people really don't care. Also, this idea of having other resellers sell on your site and not having any accountability is beyond my comprehension. Newegg also lets reps like Asus answer comments from customers but when you want to add to the comment (which is not always in line with your problem) you can't. This way the Company rep has the last word which is not always in line with the issue. The buyer can’t add info to say comment if company rep kept is word of making good with a problem reported by the buyer.
Great Processor
Pros: Stable temps at between 32c and 35c no load with Cryorig H7.
Cons: 1) I have heard about the issues of peaking temps with the 7700K (which I have). It is true! I can't speak for other board manufacturers but as far as the Asus Prime board goes (I have Prime Z270 A), the problem lies with unresponsive fan settings with either Qfan or monitoring settings. Cryorig H7
Great fan silent. Easy install on new board.
