fast enough
Pros: I initially had chkdsk errors every time I restarted the computer; this was on a fresh install of windows 7 pro. After I installed the updated firmware (3.55) from OCZ, the chkdsk problems disappeared, and I was fortunate not to have to reinstall windows. No issues since then. It's much faster than the 5400 rpm drive it replaced, so I am satisfied. I know it's not a high-performing drive relative to other SSDs, but it's priced cheaply, and it's good enough for me.
Cons: Having to install new firmware to obtain stability is a little worrisome, but I'm hoping that there will be no problems.
Works well
Pros: It's likely that selection bias dominates these reviews. People with working hard drives are less likely to post reviews than those who experience problems. Of course I've only had the hard drive for a brief time, so I hope no problems come up. It runs cool and quiet, serving well as a backup drive. Compared to its 7200 RPM companions in the computer case reporting temperatures of 30 and 33 C, this WD Green is at 27 C while in a position with inferior air flow.
Cons: I missed the discount currently being offered.
quiet drive
Pros: Replaced my old 7200 RPM drive with this single platter 5400 RPM drive for a quieter experience. The drive is indeed quiet enough such that at a working distance away from the drive in a quiet room, the spinning of the drive is barely audible -- not silent but it's very quiet. No vibration. I am satisfied with its speed; I don't feel like it's slower than my 7200 rpm drive. I'd rather have quiet than a slightly faster drive nowadays.
Cons: The seek noise is actually louder on this drive than with my old drive. I don't mind however, since most of the time, the hard drive is not seeking. The loudness may also be because the thinner, 7 mm height leaves a resonant space in the hard drive bay of my laptop.
