Good product

PPA 1738 4 Port USB 2.0 Non-Power Hub
PPA 1738 4 Port USB 2.0 Non-Power Hub

Pros: Simple, small.

Cons: None, except that is not powered (but that's why I picked this hub).

Overall Review: I needed a non-powered and compact USB hub for use inside my case. This works perfectly for that. A small warning to those choosing this hub or any non-powered hub is that plugging in devices that do not have an external power supply may drain the available USB power and cause that device or all devices to fail to start. If you can, get a powered hub.

Great case, one major flaw

SUPERMICRO CSE-113TQ-R500CB Black 1U Rackmount Server Case 500W Redundant w/ 80PLUS Platinum Level
SUPERMICRO CSE-113TQ-R500CB Black 1U Rackmount Server Case 500W Redundant w/ 80PLUS Platinum Level

Cons: Proprietary front-panel connector

Overall Review: A great case in terms of construction, airflow, etc. The problem, then? It uses a proprietary front-panel connector and does not include an adapter. The adapter is out of stock everywhere and may be discontinued by SuperMicro. It appears SuperMicro now uses a 16-pin cable design, and that is the only cable in stock. The 20-pin cables are either simply out of stock everywhere or discontinued. Since they are not listed at all on SuperMicro's website, I believe they are, in fact, discontinued. So, unless you are using a SuperMicro motherboard with a 20-pin front-panel design, this case won't work for you without modification to the front-panel connector. If you don't understand why that is bad for some reason, that means the power button doesn't work.

Good but not great

SUPERMICRO SYS-5017C-LF 1U Rackmount Server Barebone LGA 1155 Intel C202 DDR3 1333/1066/800
SUPERMICRO SYS-5017C-LF 1U Rackmount Server Barebone LGA 1155 Intel C202 DDR3 1333/1066/800

Pros: This worked fine, we ordered 3. It's small, lightweight, fairly quiet (for a server) and it's cheap. Works fine in both 2x SSD and single HDD configurations. See below for 4x SSD configurations.

Cons: BUYER BEWARE. This is officially listed as being able to support 4 SSDs, yet it only includes connectors for 2. We got Molex/SSD adapters for the other 2 but these blocked air flow and started causing over heating issues. We had to rig additional fans in to avoid this issue. In addition connections are very close together and difficult to make when using 4 SSDs. We tried several brands before giving up and using adhesive to hold the trays down. Case has limited airflow, overheating may be an issue if you put any expansion cards in. 1 had a bad RAM slot but not a huge deal, RMAed and it and it's fine.

Overall Review: I would not buy this barebone if you intend to use more than 1 HDD or 2 SSDs or an expansion card.

Good server system

Intel SR1530AH 1U Rackmount Barebone Server Intel 3000 DDRII 667/533
Intel SR1530AH 1U Rackmount Barebone Server Intel 3000 DDRII 667/533

Pros: Cheap (for a 1U), quality, quick and easy setup, gets the job done. The only install steps you need to do are install your CPU, RAM, HDD, and CD (optional), attach the rack handles and then you are done. Very easy, perfect if you need to assemble many of these in a short time frame.

Cons: None, although some people might mind the PSU being 350W, however, it gets the job done. I've had no power issues, but I only have 1 hard drive and no CD/DVD drive.

Overall Review: I have 4 of these, 1 running a Dual Core Xeon, and the other 3 running Quad Core Xeon's, all with 8GB of RAM. I use this barebone exclusively when I need a 1U system. I host game servers professionally, so they are sitting in a data center (Steadfast). I haven't had any issues with them, and I have had them for about 5-6 months.

Good little board

DFI INFINITY 975X LGA 775 Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard
DFI INFINITY 975X LGA 775 Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Price, good, stable, most of it works with FreeBSD, played nice with my 3ware RAID card.

Cons: On board NIC doesn't work under a PAE enabled FreeBSD kernel. However, it did work before enabling PAE.

Overall Review: Used 2 of these as cheap server boards until I upgraded to a real server board. One with an E6600/4GB and the other with an E6700/8GB.

Very nice!

AeroCool GT-1000 92mm Sleeve CPU Cooler
AeroCool GT-1000 92mm Sleeve CPU Cooler

Pros: Works great w/Vantec Tornado 92MM instead of stock fan. Did not try it with stock fan (with no fan, except exhaust, it works fine as well, so I assume with stock fan it would also work fine.)

Cons: Kind of tall, fine in a mid-full tower case, might be a problem in a mini. Should have included better thermal compound, but I buy my own anyway so this was not a problem.

Overall Review: Swapped stock fan for Vantec Tornado 92MM. I don't know what that other guy was talking about, CPU temp dropped from 74C at load to 32C at load, 29C idle. Also using OCZ Ultra 5+. I am very pleased with the results. Temp is now only a few degress above room temp, even at full load.
