Good Cooler

Rosewill RCX-Z5 92mm Two Ball Bearing / FDBB CPU Cooler
Rosewill RCX-Z5 92mm Two Ball Bearing / FDBB CPU Cooler

Pros: Relatively easy install. Seems to do the job quite well sitting on my Phenom II 940. Running stock (3 GHz-Cool N Quiet off) I'm looking at 31c right now sitting idle. Temps topped out at 36c after a few hours of gaming. During another session the next night, stopped at 35c. I'm guessing thermal paste setting.

Cons: Slightly more difficult to install than a stock HSF. But by no means hard to do. This is my second build and first time installing a custom cooler. Ever. Had it installed within 5 minutes. You NEED an eyeglass screwdriver.

Overall Review: On my first attempt to install, I couldn't get my fat hand in to latch the second clip. I had to removed the cooler and latched it first. In doing so, I may have messed up the spread of the paste. Someday (maybe when I decide to OC) I may re-seat it. See if I don't get even better temps. When installing, figure out which side will be the hardest to clip and do it first. Then in one smooth motion, push and latch the second clip. You are going to have to apply some pressure, but I was never afraid for my board. I also have the fan blowing up. This is fine for me. Heat wants to rise anyway, right? And it just happens to be blowing into both my PSU and case exhaust fans. And while it looks like a 5 pound monster, it's weight is nothing a MB can't handle.

Pros: Looks good.

Cons: A 700 watt PSU that can't handle a load near that. Has possibly damaged my motherboard. Read on. I promised in the very first review on this thing that I would be back if anything changed. Well, here I am. Unfortunately, the fears I had then have come true. In that first review, you can see my system. In theory, this PSU should be plenty enough to power it. In reality, it failed miserably. I began getting complete system shutdowns while gaming. No BSOD, no lockups. Pull your plug from the wall. That's what happens. It may take 40 minutes. It may take only 5. But if I put any kind of load on this PSU, my system is going down. I already suspected the culprit, but spent a couple of days eliminating other possible causes. Open case, to make sure everything's cool. Running Memtest(passed). Underclocking the GPU. The problem persisted. Eventually I did what I knew I had to. I swapped out this thing for my trusty four year old Antec Truepower II 550W.

Overall Review: XFX recommends at least a 630W PSU to power their black edition GTX 260. Which is why I made the simultaneous PSU "upgrade". This 550W Antec with a max output of 36 amps on the 12v is doing what a 700W 54 amp PSU from Rosewill can't. Powering my system flawlessly. I've had zero shutdowns since the swap, under any condition. THAT is what you get from a quality power supply. And that is why I will never make this mistake again. Unfortunately, my system didn't come through completely unscathed. The onboard audio appears to have been damaged. Thankfully it's not a total loss. I have two settings in my BIOS. HDAudio and AC97. Only the HDAudio seems to be affected as I just discovered today that switching to AC97, so far, has eliminated the audio glitches that started with the shutdowns. I wish the best of luck to the others that have purchased this. And for those browsing, do your research. And don't skimp on the most important component in your entire system.

Great Game, Great Price

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars PC Game
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars PC Game

Pros: One of the best team-based multiplayer FPS games ever. An absolute steal at this price. Fairly decent graphics, if that's your thing. Name your pleasure, this game has it. Like vehicles? Heavy and light, flying and even amphibious, QW has what you need. More into infantry combat? Tired of mindless fragging, chasing flags and just trying to find the battle? Every map has multiple objectives that must be completed or defended, concentrating the action at these points of contention. And almost every map has one or more objectives that are indoor and inaccessible to vehicles, requiring you to face the enemy in close quarters combat. ET:QW features asymmetrical gameplay in that the two warring armies are not an identical, mirror image of each other. The vehicles, classes and abilities are different between the two and have real advantages the other team does not have. Providing dozens of different ways to experience the game. Yet, the overall gameplay has been carefully balanced.

Cons: Graphics aren't mind blowing, state of the art. If that's your thing. But they look pretty enough on a decent machine. And you will see some awesome effects. It's something to see the world warp as you are enveloped (roasted) by your first orbital strike. Official ranking system has left the modding and custom map community DOA. Sadly, this just seems to be the future of online gaming. Thankfully, the official 12 maps are done well enough to keep me coming back. A bit of a learning curve may be a turn off to those afflicted with ADD.

Overall Review: Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is one of the greatest, overlooked games in recent memory. Despite Splash Damage's excellent efforts to build a multiplayer FPS game from the ground up based on providing a true team-based experience, due to lack of support from it's publisher and a common misconception that this is Battlefield with new skins, this game has been largely ignored. I'm happy there are still hundreds of people playing. But I think it's a shame it's not thousands. A game like this deserves recognition. Lest we be stuck with the same old recycled garbage.

XFX GX260NADBF GeForce GTX 260 Black Edition Core 216 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

Pros: Awesome gaming card. And for those running something like SETI @ Home, it tears through CUDA work units.

Cons: Still none

Overall Review: Wanted to update my previous review in which I mentioned I thought it might have been a GPU overheating issue causing my system to shutdown. My apologies to XFX. I was wrong. It was the cruddy Rosewill PSU that was the problem. I reinstalled my old 550W Antec Truepower II and have had no issues since. Goes to show what a quality PSU can do. Again, great card. Don't hesitate to purchase.

Pros: Great price. Burns a single layer DVD very quickly. Haven't done any DLs yet. Burns my 16X Verbatims at 20X flawlessly. 0 coasters. Lightscribe is better than I expected.

Cons: OEM, I guess. Although if you're like me, you have a bunch of cables laying around anyway. And the way it came packaged (tons of bubble wrap and peanuts), it was probably better protected than if it had come in a retail box. Gotta love Newegg for that kind of stuff. Even came with software (Nero 8 Essentials). So, not much of a con.

Overall Review: I need to go have my hearing checked. Because I've bought a few things now that have others complaining about noise I don't hear. This thing is dead silent in my rig, whether reading or burning. Using very high, sharp contrast in your Lightscribe images will net the best results.

Pros: Only four burns in, but so far 100% success rate. Even burning @ 20X on my Samsung SH-S223Q. Lightscribe looks great and has permanently retired my Sharpie.

Cons: N/A

Overall Review: I will echo what others have said. Sharp contrast is your friend with Lightscribe.
