Great value 1080p IPS monitor

Acer H6 Series H236HLbid Black 23" 5ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LED Backlit LCD Monitor, IPS Panel 250 cd/m2 ACM 100,000,000:1 (1000:1)
Acer H6 Series H236HLbid Black 23" 5ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LED Backlit LCD Monitor, IPS Panel 250 cd/m2 ACM 100,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: The main features that sold me on this monitor was the IPS panel, 5ms response time, HDMI connectivity, and price.

Cons: See the “things to be aware of” section below.

Overall Review: Things to be aware of: The screen is noticeably glossy. I have dimmers in my room and even with the lights on low I can see reflections when using the monitor. I did have some issues assembling the stand correctly. It seems as though the manufacturing of the two pieces that make up the stand wasn’t very precise so it will take some muscle to force the “neck” piece into the bottom “stand” piece so that it fits snug. Other reviews refer to the stand being very unstable or flimsy/wobbly, but if you just force the neck into the stand so that it fits snug, it will fix this problem. You have lots of limitations adjusting this monitor. For example, you can’t adjust the height, you can’t rotate in portrait position, and you can’t swivel the base. You will only be able to adjust the tilt so make sure you are okay with these limitations before buying. Also, this monitor has no VESA mount option so you cannot hang it on a wall. The monitor does not have built in speakers which some people prefer since they already have dedicated speakers. Why 5 eggs: This is a solid 1080p IPS panel monitor for the price. The beautiful colors of the IPS panel, 5ms response time, HDMI connectivity, 1080p display, beautiful design, and price are all strong selling points and I could not find another monitor that matched these features at a value price. As long as you are okay with the limitations described above, you won’t regret picking this up. Please share the love if you found this review helpful.

Works great with AMD 6800K

GIGABYTE GA-F2A88XN-WIFI FM2+ / FM2 AMD A88X (Bolton D4) SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI Mini ITX AMD Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-F2A88XN-WIFI FM2+ / FM2 AMD A88X (Bolton D4) SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI Mini ITX AMD Motherboard

Pros: 802.11AC Bluetooth

Cons: None given the board size & price

Overall Review: This is a great board if you're looking to pair it with the AMD 6800K. I bought it for a brand new Bitfenix Prodigy case build. You have 4 SATA ports which is enough for an SSD OS booth drive, a optical drive such as a blu ray player (if you're into that), and two regular 3.5" hard drives. I went with the Samsung Evo 120GB ssd and WD 1TB Black drive. The wireless 802.11AC feature is great if you want to put this in a space where you don't have a wired connection. Bluetooth feature is also great since there are some decent bluetooth speakers out there. I went with the Creative Inspire T12 speakers.

Solid motherboard

ASUS P8H61-M LX PLUS R2.0 LGA 1155 Intel H61 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
ASUS P8H61-M LX PLUS R2.0 LGA 1155 Intel H61 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Pros: This is a basic motherboard but you can acheive a high performing PC with the right components. Great value. ASUS reliability.

Cons: No SATA 6GB/sec.

Overall Review: This is a great motherboard for a professional setup (i.e. not gaming). You will still be able to run a powerful machine with this motherboard but it won't have all the bells and whistles of higher end more expensive models. It features the intel 1155 socket, 2 RAM slots, and 1 PCIex16 slot. You can easily achieve a Windows Experience Index (WEI) base score of 5.9 with the right components (and spend under $500). By the way, the bottom 5.9 score was from my 1TB WD black drive. If you decide to go with an SSD, you may see that base score rise, but keep in mind most SSDs now will be running at 6GB/sec so this MB will slow it down to 3GB/sec. Even a basic video card like the EVGA 430 will provide WEI scores above 6.0 for both the "graphics" and "gaming graphics" categories.

Great PSU

Cooler Master Extreme Power Plus - 500W Power Supply
Cooler Master Extreme Power Plus - 500W Power Supply

Pros: 500W is plenty of power for a professional setup (i.e. not gaming). The all black paint will go well with most cases. The motherboard connector (20+4) is sleeved. It's a great value PSU, you won't be disappointed if you don't plan on using multiple video cards. This should easily handle 2 monitors and a single low-end video card.

Cons: The main motherboard connector (20+4) seemed a bit short but I was able to route it behind my HAF 912 case and hook it up to my micro-ATX motherboard. This may be difficult to do with larger cases. Besides the MB connector, the other cables are not sleeved.

Overall Review: Overall pleased with the power supply.
