Most Favorable Review

Good so far

Kingston SSDNow KC100 Series 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (upgrade bundle kit) SKC100S3B/240G
Kingston SSDNow KC100 Series 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (upgrade bundle kit) SKC100S3B/240G

Pros: Very fast. I'm using these in a iSCSI SAN. Response times are 0.15 ms, which I'm sure is all from the network layer.

Cons: I bought 10 of these and one died within a few days. Newegg's shipping for RMA items is slow. I would be willing to pay extra for something better than UPS ground, but it is not even an option.

Overall Review: I ended up buying another drive so I could get it here quickly while I wait for the RMA. I set up the drives in a RAID 60 array, and I will have the extra one on standby in case another one dies. The fact that one died does not surprise, or bother, me, as you should be expect drives to fail and be prepared for it, but I wish it didn't take so long to get a replacement.

Dead after 1.5 months

OCZ Agility 3 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) AGT3-25SAT3-240G
OCZ Agility 3 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) AGT3-25SAT3-240G

Pros: Very fast

Cons: Died after a month and a half of use.

Overall Review: The drive randomly stops responding and won't be recognized by the system. Windows sees its storage drop out and blue screens. The drive still won't respond after a soft boot. A cold boot will get it working for a few minutes.

Better than expected

SUPERMICRO SuperChassis CSE-836TQ-R800B Black 3U Rackmount Server Case 800W Redundant
SUPERMICRO SuperChassis CSE-836TQ-R800B Black 3U Rackmount Server Case 800W Redundant

Pros: This case is pretty impressive. I didn't notice the air ducts in the pictures, so that was a pleasant surprise, and makes a perfect fit with the Intel CPU coolers I bought (Intel BXSTS100C). Solid construction. Everything feels nice and sturdy. The included mounting rails are pretty decent.

Cons: For some reason, the disk usage lights don't work for me. I'm using two Areca ARC-1882i cards with mini-SAS to SATA expanders. I don't know if that might have anything to do with the LEDs not working, but it is not a big deal for me anyway. All the drive bays seem to work otherwise.

Overall Review: The fans are as loud as similar IBM servers we have, but you should expect that already. I used a SuperMicro Motherboard with this case (N82E16813182213). If you use a different brand, you might have trouble with the front panel connectors.
