Evga keeps my computer happy!

EVGA 896-P3-1265-AR GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
EVGA 896-P3-1265-AR GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

Pros: This card is great and here's why... This card is a powerhouse in that it can play any game I have very well. Far Cry 2 which came packaged with the card runs smooth and the physx look great as well. I've run the card overclocked a bit with Evga's utility and was able to get a 3dmark Vantage score of about 13000 with the core @ 700Mhz and the memory @ 2300Mhz. Also the physical construction of the card impresses me. the pcb is enclosed completely in a metal/plastic casing that's stylish and and structural integrity to the card itself. Overall good card for the money and the small amount of streamline processors you gain by purchasing the gtx280 seems not worth the extra $150ish to me.

Cons: None here.

Overall Review: I am running just one of these cards since I chose to go with the Asus P5Q with the Intel P45 Northbridge. I know SLI has many benefits but the cost of having two cards with a Nvidia 790i chipset seems too pricey for me. The reason I mention the 790i chipset is that so far to support PCI-E 2.0 and 1600fsb natively you would need a 790i chipset where as the Intel P45 supports these features officially and P45 chipset boards are considerably less expensive. Also, for some games that are not brand new and don't support SLI, having more than one card becomes a mute point unless Nvidia has vastly expanded their game library that SLI will accommodate.

Western Digital Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
Western Digital Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: The drives themselves are impressive. Plentiful storage, performance proven and tested on many review sites, and the closest someone can get to a velociraptor in performance for half the price. When I get a pair of drives back from Newegg RMA I'll see for my self firsthand if all this is true for me as well.

Cons: The drives themselves are not at fault... Newegg POORLY packed these drives in the box it was shipped in. The drives were placed in part of hard drive carton with one layer of bubble wrap and the rest stryo-peanuts, however, the most exposed side of the drive pair had almost direct contact with outside of box and drives were loose inside box due to loose packing of peanuts. I tested the drives in my system in RAID 0, individually, and with one drive installed at a time in the system.... all results were that the drives had major problems out of the box. Slow to load Vista/XP, sometimes dropping out from bios detection, and when I say slow to load windows, I tried loading for about 2 hours each from primary boot to first time in desktop for Vista and XP each. Please see other thoughts....

Overall Review: This is the FIRST time I have ever had a poorly packed shipment from Newegg. Considering hard drives are more proned to damage from poor packing procedures, I think Newegg NEEDS to take extra care when packaging orders with hard drives. I'm hoping Newegg will redeem my confidence in their customer service, however, paying to have the drives shipped back even with the fault for the defect in being with poor packaging from the local distribution center, does not leave me feeling pleased with this purchase from Newegg. I mentioned this in my application for my RMA and I don't hesitate to say it again here.... situations like these only waste time and effort on the part of Newegg and the customer as well as diminishing confidence in future product purchases.

ASRock 990FX Extreme3 Review

ASRock 990FX Extreme3 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
ASRock 990FX Extreme3 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Pros: A full size board built with all solid capacitors and spacing for triple slot graphics cards in SLI or Crossfire configurations (SLI bridge included). The SATA III/6.0 GBp/s ports are designed with video card clearance in mind as well. The Xfast Lan software helps maximize bandwidth making the internet experience satisfyingly quick while the Realtek ALC892 is offered with Analog, Coax Digital, Optical Digital, and internal wired SPDIF pass through for slightly older graphics cards that cater to this connection. I do not claim to be an audiophile, however the sound from the integrated audio card is crisp and clear imho. Supports socket AM3 and AM3+ cpus which maximize on compatibility and future upgrades. Fan Header placement also seems to be in mind with water cooled setups as well as builders who prefer fan control/monitoring through the motherboard resources. 8-pin CPU power header allowing ample voltage to be supplied to the power management resources of the processor.

Cons: No Front panel USB 3.0 Header built on the PCB for modern gaming cases.

Overall Review: I was fortunate enough to purchase this board while it was on sale for $104.99 and have been impressed so far with the features you get with this model. I installed the board, loaded Win7 64-bit, and loaded the drivers for the board without any complications. The included driver disc made primary driver installation very easy, although checking for the latest drivers on the ASRock or AMD websites is key. I have not had any endeavor involving overclocking as of this writing and am unable to comment on the motherboard's ability in this regard. Not just a VGA Cooler!

EVERCOOL VC-RE Ball All In One Vga Cooler Kit
EVERCOOL VC-RE Ball All In One Vga Cooler Kit

Pros: Solid copper, efficient cooling, cosmetic appeal, and a 3-pin power connector to fit on most motherboards make this perfect for my needs. One red and blue led in the fan also make for a nice light show provided you have a clear window on the side of your case.

Cons: None that I can see at this time.

Overall Review: I have used this cooler on a few motherboards so far to upgrade northbridge heatsinks because of increased cooling needs. My latest application for this cooler is on the Asus P5N-E SLI motherboard. Using this cooler with Artic Silver 5, I have seen great improvement in temps and so far never been dissappointed.

MassCool delivers!

MASSCOOL 8WA741 92mm Ball CPU Cooler
MASSCOOL 8WA741 92mm Ball CPU Cooler

Pros: The design of this cooler is great all around, let me explain... The first feature I want to make mention of is the solid backplate for mounting the cooler. This allows for more even pressure across the pcb of the motherboard so there is no concentrated stress at the corners of the cpu socket. Secondly, the size of the cooler makes sense for alot of people out there without huge cases. From bottom of heatsink to tip of heatpipe measures approximately 4.5 inches or 114.3 millimeters and that size will work in most cases out there. Thirdly, the 92mm fan is easy to replace. Simply release the 2 clips at the base of the fan bracket and replace with any 92 x 92 x 25mm fan of your choosing. This worked well for me since I decided to use a more powerful fan on a speed controller.

Cons: None that I can see at this time.

Overall Review: MassCool has many good deals on their products here on newegg and this cpu cooler is no exception. The resonable price combined with the design of this product make it a great value all around. I still look to other brands for different needs, but MassCool has really impressed thus far by keeping my computers cool and keeping more money in my pocket when I need to spend it.

Rare floppy cable

VANTEC 24" Blue Floppy Round Cable Model CBL-FDD24-BL*2
VANTEC 24" Blue Floppy Round Cable Model CBL-FDD24-BL*2

Pros: Long enough to work in many cases without worry of not reaching, rounded for cosmetic appeal, perfect for those who still need a floppy drive in their system.

Cons: none

Overall Review: As long as Windows XP is still around there will still be some need for floppy media. Although aged in terms of computing technology, there are utilities that still require the floppy medium and *heh* a digital camera I own that won't die and still makes great photos for my favorite online auction site :)
