Disapointed, Broken HDD Panel/Case5/2/2014 9:50:22 AM

Pros: Looks nice, great feel to the material, similar to my old IBM Thinkpad T-30. Because of the reasons stated under "Cons", I have not used the equipment further.

Cons: Whenever I buy new computer equipment, especially refurbished equipment, I perform a visual check of the hardware, open all panels, covers, bays, etc. Immediately upon pulling the laptop out of the protective sheath I noticed the HDD Panel/Case/Cover was popped out from where it should be firmly seated. I inspected it closer to discover to my absolute horror that the panel was being held closed by double sided foam tape! Concerned that there must be physical damage to the case and possible physical damage to the inside, I used a small plastic tool to gently loosen the tape around all the edges and remove the panel. ALL the clips that would have held the panel in place on the front (closest to the touch pad on the under side) had been broken off, and a few had been broken off in other areas. This is completely unacceptable! I need to have access to the bay, to both swap drives, add new or extra drives, and upgrade memory. This is a material defect, not cosmetic. Any refurbished device should not be sold unless it is clearly explained that the item is broken in a substantial way.

Overall Review: I have been an ambassador for Asus in the past, both purchasing them for the two previous companies I have worked for and family members. Unless this issue is resolved I am afraid Asus and Newegg will no longer be recommendations that I will make to my customers and to my family and friends.
