Worked on Win 7 64bit
Pros: Installed this today after ignoring the previous reviews cautioning against it. The hardware installation was pretty straightforward. Unscrew old drive, put new drive in, screw in and connect, blah blah blah. It is a bit longer than a standard DVD drive by maybe 1/2 -3/4 of an inch. Wasn't a problem on my pc. The software it comes with works fine once you finally get it installed right.
Cons: The software took some poking and prodding to get it to work right. For the record, it offered me an update when I threw in the first bluray, and I took it obviously. Took a good twenty minutes to dl the whole thing. Then it uninstalls the whole program, and installs an updated version. THEN, if you're lucky it offers you another update once you get the movie going. Annoying? Yes, a little bit. Worth the trouble? Seems like it. Once all this was done it played the movie. What more can you ask from a BD-Rom.
Overall Review: Now if I post another review it'll be because the drive failed after a few days, which will seriously anger me. If not, then all went well and it deserves the current rating. Hopefully I won't need to post an updated review to 'settle the score' of 4 eggs.
Typical for the price range
Pros: Opened and closed.
Cons: It will never open again. Thing was dead after about 3 days. Seems pretty typical for drives at this price point, but my other drive (a LITE ON) is still running fine. A little disappointing.
Overall Review: You either get lucky, or you get what you pay for.
Works for me
Pros: I only use it with a small ssd from my camera, and that works perfectly. It's a simple and functional design. Don't need more than that. Very cost effective.
Cons: Not sure how it will hold up over time. Seems too simple for there to be much to screw up though. If anything changes after owning it for more than a year I'll be sure to write an appropriately justified review for that.
Overall Review: I'd recommend it.
Odd little fan
Pros: Works as an intake for me. Looks like an outtake. I know this because I plugged it in without installing it to see if it was doing anything at all, and sure enough, it pushes air into the case. So I installed it upside down (after removing the label with steel wool) and now it's sucking in a pretty good amount of fresh air to the top of my case, exactly where I want it. Now it works like a charm. Doesn't seem to lower case temps too much, but it does circulate fresh air through the case well.
Cons: I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be an exhaust fan. It doesn't do that well at all. Really wouldn't recommend this to anyone, seeing as I use it mainly for aesthetic reasons (looks cool with laser led's shooting light through it). I'd say find something more useful to fill up those empty 5.25" slots. Like a blu ray drive or something. Something with a real purpose.
Overall Review: It's a good idea, but the product doesn't work as it's supposed to. It's a shame, because it could prove really useful if they worked on the design a bit more. +
hard to screw up
Pros: It's SATA, it works, and it's cheap. The clip works well. Hard to knock it loose, though I don't recommend trying to.
Cons: None.
Overall Review: Doesn't leave much to be desired.
Great for the price range
Pros: It displays graphics very well. Kinda the point right? It usually stays pretty cool with the heatsink I installed on it. Didn't really trust that egg shaped thing for a second. Generally runs around 45-50c, and hasn't had a single hiccup in the entire time I've owned it. Really, a pretty nice card.
Cons: The 128 bit interface is a major bottleneck. Suffice to say I'll probably be purchasing a 1.5GB DDR5 384 bit card when next years tax season rolls in. It's a steep price climb but by all accounts it'll be worth it. Other than the fact that it's not a high end card, it's good.
Overall Review: If you're on a budget like I usually am, I'd recommend this card.
