Pros: This is my first mechanical keyboard and I love it. I will never go back to a membrane type. I love how crisp the keys feel when typing.
I picked the MX Brown mainly because of the claim that the MX Brown keys has reduced noise over other types and the light tactile feel with a slight bump. I am using the keyboard to type this review and I have to say I am really enjoying it.
Things I like:
- The keyboard in general feels really solid.
- The red led back lighting is pleasant and I like that you can adjust the brightness, or - even turn it off.
- Enough features to make it fun and yet it is fairly compact and easy to use.
- Fun lighting effects.
- Elegant look. Does not look like some kids gaming play thing.
- No software driver needed
- Good easy to read Quick Start Guid
Cons: The only thing I have found a little frustrating is figuring out all the different lighting effects and remembering how to get back to my favorites. I would have been nice if the Quick Start Guide had a chart explaining each lighting effect and their order when cycling through them.
Overall Review: I would definitely recommend this keyboard. I am not a heavy gamer, so I cannot comment on the macro options but I think this keyboard strikes a nice balance between functionality and fun.
It looks professional enough to be in an office and can yet your son or daughter would find its other features fun to use.
Pros: I could not be more happy with my purchase. First off, the picture quality is outstanding. It is everything the advertisement says. Now, being refurbished, I was expecting a used monitor in some generic box and possibly showing some signs of use. What I got is what appears to be a brand new unit straight from the factory, right down to the protective film protecting the monitor from scratches, and the original box and packaging. The retail box did show a couple of scuffs, so maybe that is what makes it refurbished? Unbeatable value.
Cons: If there was anything that I could be critical about is how the base installs. It is not hard but took me several tries as it really takes 2 people: One to hold the monitor while the other person fastens the base to the monitor.
Overall Review: I have had the monitor on all day and it is barley warm to the touch.
Pros: Bright and uniform light.
230 degree coverage.
Same size and shape as incandescent a19 bulbs.
Low power usage.
Bargain when on sale.
Cons: 1/4 second delay when turning on (not instant on).
Overall Review: I have replaced about 30 bulbs in my house over the last 2 years with LED bulbs from multiple manufactures. My biggest gripe has been the narrow beam angle on most of them. The ones that have a better beam angle usually have uneven light distribution. Then, there is the problem of their size and shape and getting them to fit in the light fixture. This LED has none of these problems. On top of it all, it feels solid and well made. Plus, I think its light output has the perfect warmth. I have determined that, for me, the 3000k band of light is the perfect mix of the traditional yellow (2700k) of an incandescent and the natural light (5000k+) given off by the sun.
one review says the bulb is dim. I do not have that problem. The 2 I bought are very bright.
Another review mentions the 17 year life span. I read that this number is due to the fact that their rating assumes 4 hours a day use while other brands rate their at 3 hours a day.
The only gripe is have is the 1/4 second delay from the time I throw the switch until the light turns on. This is not a big deal and I am not bothered by, as long as there are no other bulbs on the same circuit that do turn on instantly. I do not care about being dimmable but it may be an issue for you.
I also bought the dimmer version (w73001) at the same time. They are identical in every respect. I am running them side by side and the difference in brightness is almost unnoticeable. You have to be looking for it to notice.
Pros: Low wattage. Nice warm light. Very bright. Looks nice. Same shape and size as standard a19 incandescent bulb. Great price when on sale. Even light disbursement. Wide beam angle.
Cons: Takes 1/4 second to turn on. Does not dim.
This LED from Rosewill has none of these problems. On top of it all, it feels solid and well made. Plus, I think its light output has the perfect warmth. I have determined that, for me, the 3000k band of light is the perfect mix of the traditional yellow (2700k) of an incandescent and the natural light (5000k+) given off by the sun.
So, why is it my second favorite? Because of the 1/4 second delay from the time I throw the switch until the light turns on. This is not a big deal and I am not bothered by it but I have found another brand with all the same great qualities as the Rosewill and yet is instant on. Plus, the other brand dims.
I also bought the brighter version (w93001) at the same time. They are identical in every respect. I am running them side by side and the difference in brightness is almost unnoticeable. You have to be looking for it to notice.
Pros: Inexpensive. Drops max high load temp by 15 degrees Celsius. Runs quiet.
Did I mention cheap?
Cons: Large. Some sharp edges.
Overall Review: My main reason for buying this unit is that it is one of the cheapest coolers available. It did not disappoint. To install, I had to remove my motherboard in order to attach. It sounds like this is common with many models. I did notice that there are other models that do not need a back mounting bracket, but I have had problems with coolers coming loose with these types or just not making solid contact. This bad boy will still be snug long after it finds it way into a museum.
I have a first generation i7 and it runs hot at full load. I was get up to 85 degree Celsius with stock cooler. I am now getting 70 max. CPU temp usually hovers around 55 under average load.
The cooler is big. I have a full tower and an ATX mother board. I had no problems getting it to fit, in any orientation, but I can see how you could have problems with a smaller board and case.
There is a protective cover on the bottom that clearly says to remove before installing. Well, the written instructions do not mention this and I almost forgot to remove it. You have been warned.
Pros: Very responsive screen. Vibrant colors. good entry level tablet. Has Google play store for downloading apps. Has accelerometer for action games.
Cons: Requires dedicated charger. No GPS.
Overall Review: This is a lot of tablet for the price. I was worried about it being sluggish or freezing, as so many do in this price range. However, it is very responsive, even with multiple Apps open. Netflix plays without any problems. Never had it crash or hang.
A lot of people have complained about charging. For us, charging works fine as long as the tablet is off and the connector pushed in all the way. My one star deduction is because of this and the fact you cannot charge via the USB port.
If you're looking for a basic tablet that will do browsing, email, games, and Netflix, then you can't beat its performance or the price.
Pros: Keeps the xbox cool.
Does not turn on until needed.
Runs even after shutting xbox down, if needed.
Pushes the hot air out to the front and away from xbox.
Nice low profile and looks nice.
Cons: Some noticeable noise when running at full speed.
Overall Review: I ran my new xbox for about 6 weeks without this unit. I was concerned at how warm/hot the xbox felt after running a while (since my last one dies 4 times due to heat). I put this unit on and the xbox never even gets warm.
The cooler does produce some noise when running. However, the noise is from the volume of air being moved (not a mechanical noise) and not even notable during game play. I even find the slight noise reassuring: It tells me the cooler is still working.
Pros: Front panel voltage display.
Comes with software for monitoring PSU from your PC.
Verticle design takes up less space than other models.
Has plently of plugs in back for most office needs.
Cons: It would have been nice if they had spaced out or rotated the end plug in order to allow for a wider connector without covering the plug next to it.
Overall Review: I have had this unit for about 2 years and 9 months and it is still going strong. I have not yet had to replace the battery. I also like being able to view voltage values at a touch of a button.
I have VOIP and have put my cable modem, router, and VOIP box on this unit, as well as my PC. Twice now the power has gone out and the kids were able to still place calls.
Pros: This unit is quiet and I like the modular cable design. Runs cool.
I have had the unit for about 9 months and have not had a problems with it.
Cons: Label does not show on a bottom mounted case. It could use a product label on both sides so a label would show when mounted on bottom.
Overall Review: I have had the unit for about 9 mounths and have not had a problem with it.
GSKILL DDR3 1333 (2x4GB)
Kingston 120 GB SSD drive
WD Caviar Black 1TB HD
Boistar TZ77B Mobo
Intel Core i3-2100 CPU
GForce 250 graphics card
Pros: Good sound. Great value for $10.
Cons: Not packaged very well. It is obvious that Newegg simply took a return and shipped it back out. I boubt they even took the time to test them.
Overall Review: It looks like I got lucky. My speakers work fine. I see that another person was not so lucky.
Pros: This bulb puts off a pleasant warm light. It puts off enough light for a reading lamp. I like the fact that there is no warm upperiod, like CFLs, to get it at its maximum brightness.
Cons: I was suprised at how heavy they bulb is. I checked others at a doit yourself store and all the LED bulbs are heavy. So, this is normal, but something to be aware of.
The color temp appears to be more like a 2700K than the 3065K that the specs state.
Overall Review: I was expecting the light to be more towards the Bright White spectrum. The specs state that the color temp is 3065K but it appears to me to be 2700K. I wanted to use this in my dining room but the light was too warm and appeared to have an almost greenish hue. I ended buying an equivalent bulb with near same specs for the same price at a doit yourself store. Theirs is much brighter and is more of a Bright White which is perfect for my dining room.
I deducted one egg because I feel there are other LED bulbs for the same price that do a better job.
Pros: Does waht it says it will do.
Cons: The connector where you plug in your device is very tight. It takes two hands to plug and unplug your device.
Overall Review: I wrote this review to complain about how difficult I have found it to plugin the device I want to monitor. It works well otherwise.
Pros: It has multi-threading. This makes it appear to be a quad core in task manager even though it is a dual core. I read that this gives about a 1.5x performance boost.
The temperature hits around 62 Celsius when under load, with stock fan.
Cons: It does not have turbo Boost. This is by design. I just mention it because it can get confusing trying to figure out which CPU's have it and which ones do not. Personlly, I do not believe this feature is not worth the extra $$$.
Overall Review: I upgraded from an old AMD dual core processor. My frame rate in Starcraft II increased nearly 16x (using the same graphics card). Of course I am sure the new MOBO and RAM helped.
I think that quad core CPU's (I5 and I7) are over-rated. Most people do not run programs that can truly take advantage of the extra cores. You would even be hard presses to notice a difference when playing some high-end games when compared to the i5 or i7.
Pros: RAM runs at advertized speeds. Have not had a single memory error.
Cons: You have to manually set the advertized speed of 7-7-7-21 in the bios. In my opinion, it should be just plug and play.
Overall Review: I have not had any issues with this memory, even under load when playing games.
I took off one star because I had to manaully set to advertized clock speeds in the bios.
Pros: Lots of space. Great ventalation. Fans run quiet. Bottom mounted PSU.
Case seems fairly sturdy for this price range.
Cons: Had some dificulty when hooking up the DVD drive using their screwless retention device.
It takes up a lot of space. It is slightly larger than the mid size tower it was replacing.
Overall Review: I am one who has always bought the cheapest case I could get. This one was not the cheapest but still one of the cheaper cases in its class. I am glad I got this one. I used to have problems with the internal case temperature when playing games. No problems with this case.
Took off one egg for the troubles it gave me when installing the DVD drive.
This is my first bottom mounted PSU case. I found out the hard way that you could drop a srew in the PSU because of this, if you are not careful.
Pros: I have had this board for a couple of months now and I have not had one single problem with it. It does what I need.
Good price for all of its features.
Cons: The advertisment for this board states that it has "Intel Rapid Start Technology". Well, it has it in the bios but you need additional Intel software installed in order to take advantage of it. The software is not on the CD that comes with it or on their web site. One egg off because of this.
Overall Review: I am notone to overclock, so I cannot comment on this. My goal was to get a board that has SATA 6 and a USB connector for the front panel. The fact that this board used the Z77 chipset was just a plus.
Intel I3 sandy Core.
8 GB RAM
Munchkin SSD Drive
Pros: Does everything it was designed to do. Plays my blu-ray movies without any problems.
Overall Review: I read that some people did not get any software witht the unit that would allow you to play blu-ray movies. My unit did come with the software. It is actually a suite and provides all the functionality I need.
I am running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.
Pros: Easy to setup. Does its job without any problems or complaints. Worth every penny.
Overall Review: Just set it and forget it. I saw somone else had problems that required it to be cycled often. I have not had that problem.
Pros: Installation was straight forward and simple. I installed it in just minutes. No hassles, and it is fast. I installed it on Windows 7/64bit Home Premium.
I have tried other 5 GHZ options (USB connected devices) and they connected OK at max speed but were slow. I am able to connect at the max speed my network will handle at 300 Mbps. Sharing and transfers between my PC's are blazing fast and smooth. No pauses or hiccups. The max theoretical transfer speed between my PC's is 100 Mbps, due to Ethernet port limitation, and it uses every bit, which is about 12 MB per second.
Cons: Says it connected at 450 Mbps, which is not possible with my 300 Mbps router. I would like to see the actual connect speed.
Overall Review: I was using a Netgear 5 GHZ bridge to access my Netgear dual band 300 Mbps wireless router. It worked well but wanted something that would be just as fast and work on the 5 GHZ network. I had tried a couple of USB options, but actual performance was disappointing. Well, this card exceeded my expectations. Not only does it do file transfers fast, but I noticed a significant improvement in browsing pictures between my PC's.
Pros: Keeps laptop cool.
comfortable in lap.
Cons: Some fan noise.
Overall Review: It keeps the laptop running cool, even under extreme loads and it is comfortable in my lap.
The fan does produce some sound. However, I do not find it distracting or annoying.
I have had a problem with a rubber strip on the bottom wanting to come off when sitting in my lap. It was not on properly when I bought it.
Pros: Stable 5GHz connection to wireless router
4 GBit ethernet ports
Cons: Wireless ready light on front panel continuously blinks when ready. Very annoying.
Using static IP address as default setting. Could potentially conflict with other devices on network.
Overall Review: I have been using this unit as a bridge connected to my 5GHz wireless network (Netgear wndr3300) for over 6 months, with 3 devices connected to it, without any problems. Setup was easy enough using the WPS method. I later went into the unit to manually make a couple of tweaks: I reduced power output, turned on DHCP for IP assignment (static by default, 192.168.0.50), and made sure MAC address translation was turned on (needed to get Windows HomeGroup to work between computers).
This unit has been rock solid for me. I have never had to power cycle the unit. I also love the fact that it has 4 GBit ethernet ports. Most other bridges have only one, or two at most, and they are usually 100MBit ethernet ports. Also, it has good range: I have been running it in my basement which is one floor and two walls away from the wireless router and still getting 8MBytes/sec speed.
The only complaint I have about the unit is the fact the the wireless ready light on the front panel continuously
Pros: Lots of space for installing your components and no jagged edges.
The case is very "airy" allowing ample air flow.
The installed fan is very quiet. It has lots of options for installing additional fans.
Good cable management.
Fairly sturdy and fairy attractive.
Cons: The power and reset buttons blend in with the case making it difficult to see in a dimly lit room.
Must remove back panel to install HS and CD drive.
Overall Review: This is a well built and fairly attractive case for its price range. I bought it for a build I was putting together for my mother-in-law. The only complaint she has is being able to find the power button to turn it on. Once it is on, the button glows blue around the edges (nice looking). However, when it is turned off, she has trouble finding it.
Pros: This drive runs quiet and cool. It does what I purchased it for. I cannot comment on speed as I am not concerned about how fast it is as a SATA connect drive (see Other Thoughts).
Price for 2TB of storage compared to other HD's.
Cons: Rebates. I hate them. I sent it in but only time will tell.
Overall Review: I bought it to backup multiple PC's via a USB connected external enclosure. It does what I was expecting and does it well. The limiting speed factor is the USB port, which this drive has no problem matching. I don't know of a better $$$/MB ratio than this drive.
Pros: Looks nice.
Cons: Several of the pixles on the screen are dead. Cannot make out what is being displayed.
Overall Review: It sounds like I am not the only one to buy this as a shell-shocker deal and have LCD issues. I have sent it back for an exchange. I hope the next one works. Having to pay shipping to exchange an item that is obviously defective really sucks.
It is one thing be the unfortunate unlucky one to get the lemon, but there are too many of us with the same problem to be just random bad luck. Maybe that is why they were selling these off at such a discount.
Pros: Great picture: Really good contrast. Has TV tuner. Plenty of input options for hooking up gaming systems, etc. Better than average sound, for a monitor. Has remote. Looks a lot better in person than what the picture shows. Finally received my rebate check.
Cons: Sound is not theater quality, but what monitor does?
Tuner options are basic. Can only use channel up/down buttons. No way to browse channels and pick just the one you want to watch.
It took almost 5 months to get the rebate check. It was supposed to only take 3. I took off one star because of this.
Overall Review: Other people have complained that this has no wall mounting. This is true. However, maybe that is why this unit is marketed as a monitor and not as a TV.
The power button on the monitor is not a button at all but a touch sensitive spot. Cool and confusing all at the same time.
