Solid hardware, but with a serious defect
Pros: The 860M is a powerful card when running properly, and the i7 installed is likewise a beefy processor. Great for multitasking, games, and anything else performance-heavy you can throw at it. Good keyboard, big touchpad with separate buttons - which is good, since the touchpad is a sticking point for me. Good, long battery life, too, when not gaming, thanks to the Optimus system.
Cons: The model has a universal defect that causes blue screens if you use the latest Nvidia drivers for the graphics card, and performance troubles with the driver Asus provides. It's not just me; I've had Newegg replace the whole notebook, and the replacement has the same issue. Several others on the ROG forum do, too. Neither Asus nor Nvidia will acknowledge the issue thus far. Would recommend against buying if this issue remains unaddressed. Touchpad is also a bit too big and sensitive; if you turn off the "touchpad delay" setting so you can use it in games, expect to have a lot of accidental clicks when your palm hits the corner of the touchpad.
Overall Review: Official ROG Forum details on the driver problem here: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?48428-G750JM-Daily-BSODS-DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
Like a nice apple with some big bad spots
Pros: The graphics card is powerful enough to run anything I've thrown at it, with flying colors, as is the processor. The screen is nice and big, and in spite of a powerful set of chips inside, the laptop is nice and thin and light.
Cons: The touchpad is absolutely atrocious and seems cheap. I use my gaming laptops for gaming, in environments where a mouse would be tough to use, and my past laptops have had touchpads suited to this. This one doesn't have any buttons (the pad itself clicks when pressed) and frequently "ghost clicks" or reads a right click as a left click/vice versa. The wireless may be defective as it keeps cutting out to about 200 kb/s with a 200 ms ping, while all other devices on the same network work fine. The headphone jack is so tight, it took me 3 days to realize I wasn't jamming the plug in far enough, and it took even more effort to get it OUT. Runs a bit hot, though the cooler boost helps.
Overall Review: Think twice if you normally use a touchpad for gaming. I may be seeking a refund if the wireless at least doesn't resolve itself within the 30 day limit.
