Very nice for stand alone use too...

Western Digital RE2-GP WD1000FYPS 1TB IntelliPower 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
Western Digital RE2-GP WD1000FYPS 1TB IntelliPower 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Cool, quiet, speedy, and holds all I could ever want. I use it as a stand alone external hard drive for general storage and backup. Like Night Sailor said, it was recommended for use in a raid situation, but it works just fine as a single drive too.

Cons: Like wfbnadador said before me, it does make a startup noise, but its smooth and quiet from there on out. But that doesn't really sound like an issue at all.

Overall Review: I have it housed inside a : "Rosewill RX-358-S BLK" drive enclosure. No installation issues, or recognition issues, worked just as a plug and play drive should. The drive was intended for use in a professional grade, mass-storage configuration, where its power and efficiency technologies would prove to be a valuable asset, but that doesn't mean it won't work well as a single drive solution.

great while it works....

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Lots of space, and worked well while it was working...

Cons: Purchased : 12/08/08 Minor hiccups roughly a month later. Such as random occurrences of the drive not being detected by the motherboard. About a week ago, it started making this awful clicking noise that I know any hard drive shouldn't be making, like a rhythmic pattern as if the read heads were either being blocked, or not engaging properly. January 28th : dead drive. enough said. Save your money for a drive from a better manufacturer. It seams many are having the same problems, and a drive with basically a 2 month operational period, is just pathetic.

Overall Review: Never again, will I purchase a Samsung device.

5 years old! and still kicking!

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin PC RAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin PC RAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL

Pros: Was browsing my order history and came to the realization that the ram in my computer is 5 years old. This stuff is still running perfectly fine. I have been running my machine with a slight FSB overclock to generate 1648mhz on the ram. These sit comfortably in an equally antiquated (haha) GA-990FXA-UD3 motherboard.

Cons: None.

Overall Review: Pairs well with an AMD FX-8320 and GA-990FXA-UD3 motherboard in my experience.

GA-990FXA-UD3 Revision 1.0 - 5 years later and still kicking!

GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Longevity! Just browsing my order history and had not realized that this board was 5 years old! Overclocks well! Had been running it with an AMD Phenom 2 955 black edition for 3 years after purchase, and upgraded to an AMD FX-8320 back in 2013, and running an average 0.5 gHz overclock non-stop on both chips with no power or multiplier throttling and supporting an SLI setup (2 gtx660's currently). Simply a fantastic board for the price at the time. Newer versions probably even more so with the updated chipset cooling. This thing has outlived a power supply and hard a drive.

Cons: North bridge chipset has been noted by many for running hot, but I have not personally experienced any problems due to overheat. Software it came with was useless, never used it aside from updating the bios from time to time. Overclocking was all handled manually in the bios.

Overall Review: System is currently supporting and running with: - AMD FX-8320 overclocked to 4gHz - 2x4GB G.Skill DDR3 1600mhz memory (slight FSB overclock to 1648mhz) - 2 Gigabyte branded GTX 660 2GB edition cards in sli - 2 1TB black edition WD hdds - 1 Samsung 500gb SSD (evo 850) - Thermaltake 850wt power supply Have also since performed an in-place upgraded from window 7 to 10 with no issue.

works like a champ

ZALMAN CNPS9500A-LED 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler
ZALMAN CNPS9500A-LED 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler

Pros: Works as advertised. Looks nifty and is not as massive as it's 9900 counterpart, so I didn't have to worry about weather or not it would fit in my case.

Cons: None I can really think of.

Overall Review: Had this thing for over 2 years, temps range roughly from 30c to 50c depending on load with my Phenom ii x4 955 cpu (as well as ambient room temperature). I do not overclock. My fan just recently started making an odd noise, so I requested a replacement fan through Zalman support. It's nice to see they'll send out a replacement fan for only 4$ if you're out of warranty and not have to go out and buy an entire replacement unit. Resides in an: Antec 300 Case cooling an AMD Phenom ii x4 placed on a Gigabyte GA-990fxa-ud3 motherboard sporting some G.SKILL Ripjaws Series memory with plenty of clearance left over.

Awesome

TP-Link 5 Port Gigabit Ethernet Network Switch | Plug and Play | Desktop or Wall-Mount | Plastic Case Ethernet Splitter | Fanless | Traffic Optimization | Unmanaged (TL-SG1005D)
TP-Link 5 Port Gigabit Ethernet Network Switch | Plug and Play | Desktop or Wall-Mount | Plastic Case Ethernet Splitter | Fanless | Traffic Optimization | Unmanaged (TL-SG1005D)

Pros: A gigabit switch for nearly the same price 5-port non-gigabit switches normally go for at the store. Cheap in price, felt like a sturdy and robust piece of hardware. Perfect for home/small office. Sustainable transfer rates (that are typical for a gigabit network) from a NAS box to computers while concurrently streaming to HTPC's without issue.

Cons: None so far.

Overall Review: Currently have an 8-port version as the backbone of my home network (its been up and running for over a year now), just needed a few more connections in one room and the 5-port did the trick. Hopefully this one will be just as good over time. :)
